    P.S. I can't keep up with my APBT...lol

When I talked to them they never gave me the impression that they cared if you bred their dogs. I asked if there was any mandatory spay/nueter contracts and there weren't.

Oh really? I read through their website and it says they don't sell to people who intend to spay / neuter the dog as their dogs are from superior bloodlines and are bred for reproduction stock...?

It does say that in their FAQ section.

If I were looking for a dogo I'd talk to kennels like Los Cazadores Kennels or California Catchers. They actually hunt their dogs, which for me (and i'm sure for most people on this forum too) is a much better way to make sure you're getting the real deal rather than breeding to "the original breed standard". But thats only if you want a real working dog.

just re read the thing about never trusting a pitbull not to fight. not saying you didnt take notice of it but, if you can sit there and say he will never start a fight your allready on the back foot instead of the front. it is the number one rule and im sure every one here will back me up.how old is your pit? he may have not even have turned on yet.

This is true. ^^^^^ I just heard a lady on the radio talking about how she has a recue pit bull who she used to be at home with everyday but now she has to go to work and the dog gives her these sad doggy eyes so she thinks the dog needs a friend. So she says she's gonna go get her rescue dog another dog so it will have some company......... How stupid can a person be. Just wait till she comes home someday after work and has to clean up the mess. This is why I'm somewhat against the rescue option. Because most of the people who do rescue don't research first. Kudos to you boss mom for seeking info first. I wouldn't recommend having both together.

heres one of the florida dogs

if your wondering why its not trying to eat the small meal in front of it then this isnt the dog for you .

for the most part Dogo's are awesome pack dogs and do not share the same temperament as APBT's this is a plus for some people and a negative for some people. its not uncommon for this dog pictured to go take on a deer (whitetail in my parts of florida), the dog will hunt but it will also get along with other dogs. they are protective though so be warned, if you cant contain the dog then dont get one. the dog pictured is 98lbs and 14months at the time of the pic, the dog is currently 103lb and 18 months. you will need to take time out to train the dog just like any other, how much work you put in is how much work you get out of it.

to bobby what happen with your accidental stock

    To Junkyard and Yardboy,

My dog is going to be 5 years old in June. He is cold as they get (well at least as far as I've ever seen). That in mind, I am no newbie to the breed. I know that they must always be supervised! I don't intend to leave both dogs roaming around alone.

I didn't mean to say my dog won't fight - that is not what I meant. What I meant to say is that he is not dog-aggressive - and like I said his only trigger is food. He's been around plenty of dogs and I always watch him closely and to this day his only scrap has been over food. He did not start that fight. He stuck his face in another male's food while the dog was eating. That dog was not impressed and let Boss know it - Boss did fight back.

I honestly appreciate the concern and understand where it comes from. I know there are a lot of people on this forum very new to the APBT.

I am a newbie when it comes to the Dogo, though, so please feel free to share your experiences with them. I really do like to hear everyone's thoughts on the breed. Also very interested to hear if you know of another breed out there that can match my Pit Bull's energy and drive (and your opinions on if a Dogo can't?).

Thx again guys and I will be checking out all of the recommended kennels and websites :)

well it would be easier to mix a dogo than another apbt bc they arent as DA. They actually hunt in packs but they are a lot bigger than an apbt so if their is a fight then good luk breaking that up. What i like about mine are they are 40 and under. I can usually get them apart by myself. Im looking into some mayday or yellow so those days might be over soon tho lol

im assuming you mean APBT, cause i dont know of any 40lb dogo
  12. Dream Pits

    Dream Pits CH Dog

Ha, i havent seen a 40 lbs dogo either lol. i dont see myself having a dogo anytime soon. For one some dogos are like 3 stacks a piece
there are other reason but thats another thread...

Well that right there might deter me from purchasing one! Not a chance in hell am I going to spend $3000 buying a dog. lol
  14. Yardboy

    Yardboy CH Dog

You can find them cheaper than $3000 but I think the cheapest I've seen was around $900 but most are expensive so I would be leary of the cheaper ones. Definetly get to know the breeder.

i cant find the rescue i was talking about sorry if i come across it ill come back and post . for now check this video out ive posted in another dogo thread about the dogo from national geographic you can learn alittle about it:

also like other people are saying be careful where you get it from if your worried about the dog aggression of the dogo because there are some breeders that breed them specifically to fight and other breed to the standard.

    tony413 Big Dog

haha i know what you mean the dog in the picture was $2800 from a local breeder in florida. the breeder was cool though an the contract isnt to bad.
  17. Yardboy

    Yardboy CH Dog

If you like pretty show dogs Legend Dogos in Athens OH has the most beautiful ones but they're contracts are ridiculous and I'd rather have an ugly mongrel who lived to hunt instead of chase ribbons if I was to get anything other than an apbt. Only reason I know anything about them is cause my wife is stuck on them and determined to own one when her Jack Russel dies.
  18. Dream Pits

    Dream Pits CH Dog

get vid! thanks for that and yeah their are some that were used for combat. I think that trend is decreasing but still read between the lines when you purchase. If you get one bred for that purpose, WATCH OUT!

I did contact Las Pampas and their males do start at $3000 USD. Not realistic for me being as I'm not a breeder and only work with dogs as a hobby for mine and their enjoyment. A Dogo might not be realsitic at this point. I'll keep looking at all the recommended kennels, though.
  20. Yardboy

    Yardboy CH Dog

Can definitely find them cheaper but I doubt if you'll find one for less than a grand.
