I don't know anybody who let 2 dogs enter one burrow.
No matter if it is a Patterdale, Jagdterrier, Jack Russel, Dachshund....

yes but a DA terrier is still a liability,i don't work my dog's to ground but use terriers to flush to lurcher's.

i did try a bull/patterdale for a while and he was great until he attacked my lurcher one day, gave him a while re-introduced the dog's then eventually tried working them together and he did the same again, most would'nt of given him a second chance

that was the end of him.

Patterdales are bred for earthwork, not for packwork.
Some individuals can work in a pack, but it's no fault to breed with a DA one, if it is a good earthdog.
But you are right, ...it could be stressful to have a bunch of DAs on the yard.

  4. you don't want your dogs in the ground together.

not only stressful but a liability imo.
i would class it as a fault because it is not necessary for the dog to do its job and makes life difficult for everyone else.

I think it's a question of priorities in the breeding.
It's not easy to breed a good earth-dog, because of the high-particular-requirements that it needs.
So, if I would have a dog-agrressive one, who is a better earth-dog than a dog-friendly one, I would breed with the dog-agrressive.
...Because it's not necessary for the job to be dog-friendly.
But if both dogs work similar, I would prefer the dog-friendly, ...of course.

Earthdogs are only to be worked single handed, yes you can take more than 1 dog into the field but the rule is, work single haned to ground. Ratting they will work together but earthwork is a different story. If a dog can't work alone in the dark then cull. They are bred with 1 job in mind and 1 job only. To go to ground and stay until dug out.

Patts I've had, the DA ones arent when working with other dogs, they know their job. I got one here thats piss mean, will hit any dog but is fine when working.

If your terrier has her shots than why the worry about rabies? Id like to know more about your raccoon encounter. how did you draw the terrier off? Not good that your hunt terrier is dog aggressive. I hunt with a buddy and we each drop a terrier, and if there is or was any sign of dog aggressiveness, its back to the box.imagine hunting a barn and all hell is busting loose with coons and terriers chasing and then terriers scrapping terriers in the middle of that? good luck coming back to that permission. or even hunting to ground, two dogs dropped to hunt up have all the room in the world to have a fight. absolutely no good at all. dog aggression is a cull in my books.

Of course you dont let two terriers enter the earth, but hunting to find the setts we drop a terrier each. and i dont know about your terriers but when mine smell my hunt boots and hear the collars getting turned on, they get cranked up a few decibels. and a cranked up terrier hanging out hunting with other cranked up terriers they had better be about one thing only, hunting, not fighting each other.

You can seperate the dog agrressive one from the others, so where is the problem?
In my area are some dog agrressive earthworkers who make a good job. I know a man with 2 fantastic Jack Russels , who are d.a. , and one man with a Dachshund / Teckel who is d.a. .
Nobody is thinking about to cull them, but many are thinking about to breed with them.

I dont hunt the way you hunt I guess. We each drop a terrier and follow em. When someone elses terrier locates we honor that terrier and pick our own terrier up and tie em out. However there is all the time before a locate is made that a DA terrier can cause all sorts of problems. We also always have a lurcher along and a DA terrier that wants to fire up on a lurcher is not gonna live very long. We are not in a spot that forces us to pass that DA blood on, we have none DA terriers that get everything done. Keep breeding your DA blood, and I will politely pass saying thank you not for me .
