Can anyone tell more about this kennel/bloodline?
    Does it still exist?
    Amstaff's or APBT's?

    Thank you

a thousand bucks for a puppy? You gotta be kidding me. When I was shopping around for my female I got her for 500. And I talked the guy down from 800 I can't imagine spending that much. Did you all on here spend that much on dogs? 1000s?

    Thank you all...

I am very interested...the dogs look very very nice...and from what I was told...most of them have a lot of drive...

Let us see if we can find breeders of this bloodline...

I like the line and some of what it brings with it.

I also believe that for a while it was being tremendously overbred making the quality of the line go down.
On a good note,... Seems people are realizing what's behind this line and are making better judgements in breeding. I have seen some real nice castillo stuff out there. They tend to be a little bigger than I like but they are nice, correct, solid temperment dogs with fire.
My bitch is on the smaller end of the Line being 56lbs.

Thats because thats what they were bred for-looks. They are Amstaffs in my book.

They are pretty dogs, but I've seen Castillo blood touted on more than a few BYB yards. That in itself is enough to make me leary. (Indicates poor ethics in selling/studding dogs.) I'm also seeing a lot of oversized dogs in that California Pits kennel. In fact, they look like they're breeding for size specifically. (One pup was 4 months old and 20 pounds heavier than my adult dog.)

Massive dogs with no health-testing and only a handful of show titles? I wouldn't touch it.

Maybe the BYBs who have them may be breeding for something different in the newer stuff but the older stock is Hemphill/ Wallace. So it depends on if you go to a BYB or reputible breeder IMO. Unfortunately, there seems to be more BYBs in every line of dog than reputible breeders. It is really sad.

Just because some dogs are nice looking, it doesn't mean all they were bred for is looks. IMO dogs should be the total package; you may feel differently

A good example of a nicely bred dog... She also doesn't look like any AKC registered dog I've ever seen.

Like I stated, There are alot of BYB's using Castillo and breeding them for the wrong reasons as with any other bloodline. But they do derive from good bloodlines and they are not Amstaff at all. They have good temperments and have that fire I like in dogs. Don't get me wrong, I don't stick up for just any dog that happens to be Castillo nor do I condone stupid breedings that produces crap and contaminates the bloodline. I am somewhat of a purist, I like Traditional APBT blood. I know what's behind Castillo and would like to preserve a little of that older stuff before it's all ruined. You could use my bitch for an example, she's Castillo, weighs 55 - 56lbs, had a hard time Championing in UKC conformation going up against Amstaffs but kicks ass in weight pulling. Currently #13 In the UKC allstars. Its a shame what some people do with these dogs that ruin the bloodlines and the name. So next time you see or hear a Castillo dog, take a minute to access. Don't judge them all just because of a few idiots.

But here's where I keep hanging up. The owner of the California Pits site was named Tekla Castillo? Wouldn't that be the originator of the line? Or is it just a coincidence? If he's the creator of the line, and he's right down there with any other BYB I've seen, isn't that the line? Saying that BYBs got their hands on it and have messed it up is fine, but to me it looks like the person who started it has already screwed it up nice.

Of course, if that Castillo isn't the originator of the bloodline, I can see the validity of the argument. But if he is, its kinda like the arguments about RE. If Dave started out with good dogs, then turned it into crap, that doesn't make RE a good line, just because it started out good. Same with Castillo. If the early dogs were good, but the bloodline hadn't yet reached its "goal" of crapdom, does that still make Castillo a good line?

Maybe I should've gone to sleep last night. I can't tell if anything I just typed makes any sense.

Congrats on your dog! I'd love to see picts and her pedigree. I think your dog, Pepper, and Pepper's offspring are the only ones lately that I've seen titled. Do you know of any others?

bahamutt99 I absoulutely see what you are saying. especially when loking at the comment I posted above to Kinny

I honestly didn't consider it a line but a kennel name. Some just slap a kennel name on as a Bloodline so it is really getting harder toi tell when one actually starts. UUUGH.
Is it now considered a bloodline as well now? If that is the case I wouldn't consider the original stock and few generations then to actually be their line JMO.

LOL crapdom LOL That just made me laugh and want to cry for the breed though at the same time.

Yeah, I don't know. May as well call it a kennel name. A lot of the stuff considered bloodlines by folks nowadays ends up just being a few generations of scatterbred dogs with the same name.

    CASTILLO'S TROLL ROM

Troll was born and raised on the yard of the famous breeder *Edit no full names* Stevens. *Edit no full names" bred his 2X winner Zera, daughter of Ch. Zero, to Red Rhode's 2X winner Amos, who was a son of Gr. Ch. Virgil ROM.

Troll was rolled once and looked very good, but unfortunately broke his hangers in his schooling. To make matters worse he had the bad habit of chewing on rocks and his chain, thus dulling all of his teeth making it improbable for him to be matched. He was bred to a few gyps on *Mr.Stevens*' yard.

At around the age of 3, Troll was sold to *Edit-no full names* Castillo who kept him for a few more years until finally selling Troll to Pit Magic Kennels.

Troll sired Ch. Waldo out of O. Stevens' Butterfly (Carver blood), Ch. Tyrone, Ch. Ozzie, and Gr. Ch. Krueger out of O. Stevens' Ramona ROM.

  15. My bitch is 2 yrs, 16 1/2'' withers 42 lbs.

  16. the castillo line (yes, tekla castillo is the 'originator') is a very nice line of heavily line-bred show dogs. the stemmed from a hemphil/wallace foundation and those game dogs started pulling double duty as show dogs. that line soon became predominantly showbred and in turn (like always) started to get progressively bigger. i know a guy who crosses castillo to RBJ and has very nice success in the game world. the castillo line is probably the best "good looks/amstaff" type line that retains a strong game gene...depending on which 'strain' (for lack of better words) you get a hold of. the dogs are usually a little thicker-boned, but are extremely consistant when it comes to health, looks, temp, athleticism, and all around great qualities. if you're looking for a good looking red dog...i'd advise looking into the castillo bloodline. if you want an all-out game performer...look elsewhere. i have a decent amount of experience with this blood, and currently have 2 show dogs of this line. one is 100% castillo, the other is 50% castillo.

there are also other sites to see breeders of castillo dogs:
    Coldsteel
    Astig
    First Step
    Black heart
    Anchor Chain
    and others....

hey, you got a picture of that girl? She must be very well conditioned.
The lowest my girl ever came in at for weight pulling was 51lbs. It bit us in the butt, she lost the edge going against 100lbs+ dogs. We gave away too much weight.
