Can't disagree, but what about the other side of the coin. A poor producer is born with poor producing ability also.

 

I dont see anything wrong with what he said i just think that if you check the parents you get better percentages in your litters hell i can throw up pedigrees to prove and disprove what he said lol there are no absolutes in life!!!

 

When breeding dogs your looking at certain traits you want to try and lock in, so breeding from untested stock your not going to know what those dogs are about ? As in were they cold, cur, game, mouth and ability etc . Most that say the same as Floyd are nothing more than peddlers and i bet Floydd never said that when he was active and breeding . :rolleyes:

 

Ya its hard for me to wrap around my brain that he would say its ok to breed a dog that wasnt looked at???

many of em did it. i realize that goes againt everything most preach, but its a fact. and yes, i do agree that a dog can be a "born producer", but obviously it needs to end up in the right hands to achieve its capability.

lol no one said you were lyin although it does seem like your leaving some things out lol. But oldtymer is right when you breed your suppose ta have a game plan breeding for purpose ya know. I do believe that dogs are producers or not also so i aint argueing that BUT it does take 2 animals to produce yes sometimes you can get away with just one of the parents being a good producer and still get something out of the litter but it helps if both animals have good qualities. LOL And i'm sure he didnt mean to just breed to anything i cant remember EVER seeing a dog with his name in the ped that was anywhere near scatterbred most of the dogs you see with his name in it are really tight linebred animals!!!

 

breedin dogs is a crap shoot anyhow..you can test and weigh and measure and pray and ya still might get a litter of bullshit..or ya could have an accident and end up with gold...i think the key to being a succesful breeder is being able to be honest with yourself about what comes off your dog and not being too proud to scrap em and go back to the drawin board.....in regards to chasing dead dogs...all sectors of this breed do it...bully people do it...doggers do it..showmen do it....ever single dog is different and we gotta take each one for what it is...I've never had a dog that was equal exactly to another...and ya kint expect em to be...

lol yup just like when people say we are going to wait for the second heat but to me dogs came down from wolfs and such so that in the wild wolfs are not going to say hey lets just wait on the second heat to breed nope as soon as they are in the cycle its time there are bitches that do come into heat way early in age and some that come late

 

When I first started this not so long ago I kept trying to tighten enough to get what the man I got my dogs from called a foundation dog. Instead of using what was on my yard I kept saying to him let me hook up with one of yours. The words he spoke to me I will never forget .... he said basically make your own thing create your own mix....improve what I have through your yard..your dogs..

 

If Honeybunch was never looked @ but all other things being equal (bred to the same males), would she have produced differently?

If Jeep was a couch loving, snuggie wearing house dog but bred to the same bitches, would his producing record be different?

Answer to both is an unequivocal no. We have history to verify this statement......

What your suppose to do or look for is independent of what is.

Peddling doesnt exclude quality. If Floyd had an ace and decided in a femto-second to turn around and sell the dog, did the dog cease to be an ace and turn into a mallard duck?

 

1. Yes because her owner probably wouldnt have bred her otherwise.

2. Yes it would cause no one would have ever heard of him and he wouldnt have had the amount of bitches bred to him that he did!!!

If a dog has the ability to throw good dogs it makes no difference if the dog was checked or not. Fact. Checking a bulldog does not make it produce better. Fact. Floyd wasent advocateing breeding dogs without looking at them but someone with his years in the game , his sucsess as a breeder, and his breeding knowlidge can breed to a untested dog here in there. A true pro can make that call. The proof is in the puding. Fact. If it dont work out cull and start over. Its like E.O said there is no perfict blueprint to follow in these dogs. Take from the floy B quote what you will...If you dont get it...you never will. He is not the only oldtimer to say or practice this.

I must agree wit dat statement to a certain degree...But somewhere the basics got lost up in the mind frame of "RIGHT NOW"... Wat i mean is that people dont have the patientence like they did years ago.... We love to stick to history as far as wat crosses well wit this and wat not but now u dont hear of many dogs as "COLD" but mostly "CUR"... "History" has showed us that some of the best dogs came from cold parents.. But now a dayz that is just unexceptable so to speak.. Im in no way sayin breed bulldogs just cuz they are bulldogs but sometimes we have to see past the right now and look on down the road.... Yes it takes time and yes its not easy thats why everybody cant do it... I see alot of folks sticking to the pedigrees in their breeding program but not the practice of whomever put 30 plus years in the dogs of those peds....

The chasing dead dog part... we see it all the time.... And alot of us have probably done it either willingly or unwillingly.... I feel that if u are chasing a dead dog how are u getting better??? Breeding should be something to better the line/family of dogs that u are dealing with...Breeding for something of past tense is just like runnin in place... True... u are movin but u are not makin any progress....

 

Dogman 82 you missed my point. I am not advocateing amatures to breed untest cold or cur stock. Like I said a breeder of F.B. experiance can do these things. Last I checked F.B. was breeding dogs "years ago"
