Choosing a puppy

Discussion in 'Breeder Discussion' started by Strikeforce, Apr 19, 2020.

  1. Hi, first I want to apologize if this topic is not in the right place.
Like many, I want to buy a dog of this breed, I like the exterior of these dogs, the passion in their eyes,
their energy and everything related to the breed.
I want the dog for my companion, I do not intend to use it to pull weights, jumps or "game" with other dogs.
I've been waiting for a dog for a long time and if I have to start another year or two, I just want to choose the right dog. And here comes the problem, since in my country there is no real breeder for pitbulls,as in 99 % of cases are not pure breed.
That means I have to find a dog from another country. Almost nowhere on the Internet I was able to find at least a little information on how to choose a dog. So I have a few questions
    1. Are all puppies one quality? Can this be known at such a young age?
    2. Does the largest puppy necessarily remain the largest as an adult?
    3. Is there anything that can predict the size of the dog? Such as the size of the mother and father (although I have noticed large male dogs that produce quite small heirs and vice versa) or the size of the paws or legs of the dog.
    4. Does the dog's color matter? I had the opportunity to observe the development of 4 brothers -2 black and 2 red.Parents also black. In addition to the color differences as adult dogs, there were differences in the structures themselves (head shape, size, kilograms) and all were brothers born together.
My topic would be ridiculous to many of you, but if anyone is willing he can reply.

    Best regards

    ****No****

Can this be known at such a young age?

    ****No****

    ****No*****

*****The parents are a general reference to what size the offspring will be however you never really know until they are adults. If your worried about it being a certain size I'd suggest a prospect aged dog rather than a pup.*****

    4. Does the dog's color matter?

    ****No. Unless its blue lol.****

****That happens more when one outcrosses. Family bred dogs tend to be a lot more consistent in phenotype.****

Strikeforce, if you need to import a dog since the type you seek is not available locally, then you will likely have to wait awhile anyhow until "globalism" returns to “normal”… I heard folks here in the US are having logistical challenges importing dogs from Europe at this time.

If you buy locally, maybe choose a different breed - especially if you seek a companion dog, and not so much a higher energy athlete as some performance lines tend to produce.

A reputable, experienced breeder can work with you in selecting a pup with the personality you want, to a degree. Easier to predict the personality the older the pup is, but then more expensive - especially if the pup has some training.

  4. Thanks for the replies, as I said I am in no hurry, and the situation at the moment is such that importing a dog will be unnecessarily difficult. I just want answers to the questions I have in my head and maybe some guidance on how to choose a dog when the time comes. Unfortunately, if the dog is in a country that I cannot go to, the choice will have to be made through photos.

    Best regards

These dogs can make great companions , but you have to be very aware of what’s on the end of the lead , especially if your going to be out in public places with them.

I have one here that should have been in Hungary over 2 months ago. Trying to export them right now would be extremely difficult. Even when everything goes as planned your looking at 1500 to 3000 USD just for shots, passport, international health certificates, crate, airfair and handling and any other thing the airline comes up with as a fee along with whether or not your using an individual transporter. Be prepared to pay at the very least 2500 usd. For you to import one. That's the price of the dog as well, asumming you pay 1000 or under for the pup. Also, a lot of folks don't seem to realize the cost to transport one from the US to the other side of the world costs minimally 2x more than the price you'll pay just for the dog. It's also a huge pain in the ass for the breeder which can also increase the price wanted for the dog.

I have to drive 2 hours 1 way myself just to send one overseas. I wouldn't do it out of the kindness of my heart. That cost gets handed over to the buyer.

Adawg, who is the best in the game at international travel with these dogs would cost you 3200 door to door and he handles everything for both the breeder and the buyer. However, thats just his price. Still have to factor in price of pup. It's not a cheap date so if that seems ridiculous to you, you probably want to look closer locally.

  8. I looked at the prices of transport from America, in fact, even between countries in Europe, it is expensive to transport a dog by plane. It's cheaper to go get it and get it back by plane than to travel alone because it's charged as cargo. And after this pandemic, transportation of humans and animals is likely to be complicated. Thanks again for the answers.

    Best regards.

Buying a pup is always like the lottery you can never be sure what it’s gonna end up like. Buying off a photo you won’t even be able to see if the pups are healthy that’s why you need a good relationship with the breeder so he can be honest and pick what’s best for you.

If you are in Europa you can find a purebred pit easylie, pick it up by ca
Do your homework, don't know the country were you are in but there must be some purebred APBT'S out there.
Probably you don't know were to look, find out,, no hassle with importing and you can probably see both parents and the rest of the litter, sounds like a win - win situation IMO...
    Good Luck.
