Do you guys take your dogs in the public parks

Discussion in 'Training & Behavior' started by CommanderHavana, Jan 23, 2021.

  1. Do you guys with APBT or high prey drive stock dogs take them to public areas, or do you avoid?

Seems it can be risky. And also annoying if your dog is screaming and pulling toward other dogs acting psychotic.

I took it more as like at a dog park type public area.

Most conformation shows are in public areas. I guess it comes down to what the OP is referring too as far as "public area".

I walk mine regularly around my neighborhood which is a public area as well. Though I do stay on less beaten paths to avoid confrontation and people's unleashed dogs.

Not to dog parks nor around loose dogs, ever. You can’t change a dog’s genetic predisposition, but you can train control. Lol getting bit once in awhile and breaking up a fight comes with ownership.

I had a chihuahua and wouldn't step foot in a dog park. When I have the K-9 dog at my house I still would not step foot in a dog park.

  12. Yes i was talking about dog park type areas.

If your dog sees another dog, what do you do? Is it best to just hold still until they pass or do you immediately go away.

What if an unleashed neighborhood dog ran up on your dog?

It don't happen because I walk woods and old abandoned train tracks.

If, in the unlikely event that would happen. It depends on what it's breed, size and general demeanor is as far as what would I do.

An unleashed doberman ran up on my chihuahua a few years ago. My dog stood in front of me and wouldn't move. LOL...a chihuahua standing up to a doberman. Anyway, if the doberman would of went for my dog, that dog would of been kicked onto the next block.

Here it would be better to stab that Shepherd to death myself then to let my dog do it for me.

Having our kind of dog always puts us in a disadvantage position.

Even when my dog is muzzled and would kick the living shit out of that Shepherd with KungFu moves, my dog would be the one to blame while covered with bite marks and whatever.

Don't risk it, you will loose your dog. Our dogs should have owners who KNOW this stuff before they take this kind of dog.

Due to the negligence of other dog owners, it can be a serious challenge (and risk) to walk a real dog in a public park.

Folks who allow their dogs off leash in public parks when people, especially children, or other dogs are present (which is almost always lol) are complete turds IMO.
