Dog aggresive

Discussion in 'Patterdale Terriers' started by PitBullBoricua1, Jan 15, 2013.

  1. I have a Patt that is 9 month old, in the apartment he is very quiet, he gets along with my wife's Yorkie. Now when I take him for walks he is completly different, he wants to go after any animal he sees, I mean cats, ducks, squirrels, raccoons, but he also wants to go after other dogs, specially if the other dog barks or growls then he goes crazy.

When he was a bit younger I was able to stop it, but one day I took him to my father in law's house and their dog came over and bit my dog in the back leg while I was playing with him and had him up in the air, my dog went nuts, grabed their dog by the chest I was able to take him off of their dog and ever since that incident he just goes crazy wjen he sees other dogs.

So your father in laws dog grabbed your patterdale by the back leg and swung him in the air? What kind of dog did this to him? Was he the same sex?

  3. No I had my dog up in the air, he was biting a rag and thats when his dog bit my dog in the back leg. His dog is a mix yet bigger than my dog.

Just wanted to know if ya have any suggestions on what to do?

Terrier breeds are not submissive dogs even the smaller Terriers.

  5. I just thought since the breed is for hunting it would not have dog aggresion, guess I was wrong.

like has been said he is a terrier. most working terriers seem to have some sort of respect for each other and can be worked in packs or pairs. then again some terriers hate anything with a pulse, lol. is your boy ok with bitches ?

  7. Don't know, haven't paid attention to the sex of the dogs around here, will have to see.

Its not hardto deal with you just have to be responsable and not let him run free...and keep him away from other dogs if u have to..Like jacko said he may get along fine with females...Most people dont know what they r getting when the get a working terrier..I remember years ago when Jack Russells were plastered all over TV..comericials,movies.tv sitcoms ..it was bad..Everybody like thier soooo cute so people started buying them left and right and then they realize thier not very good house pets lol.

Some dogs just don't like other dogs my own pet terrier who passed away recently hate all dogs even when he was a puppy. You might just have to keep him away from others.

  10. No I don't let him run free, I always have him on a leach in our walks. Didn't get him because of hype or anything like that, I.ve had Pits, I just didn't think he was going to be that aggresive toward dogs.

Once a dog has been attacked and bitten by another dog, it is extremely difficult if not impossible to stop a dog from becoming aggressive when near strange dogs.

My Jack Russells dont like strange dogs ,I learned to pair them male and female worked good for me..My males love people let anyone pet them..Females just the opposite very very protective and wont let no one touch except me.After you been around them a while u learn what u can do and not do with them.

  13. He was aggresive before this but I was able to calm him down, but I couldn't let him get close to any dog, that day that I went to my father in laws house, I didn't let him get close to the dog I had him on a leach but their dog was loose.

It's just strange that in the house he is quiet and he plays with my wife's Yorkie, yet if I walk him with her Yorkie I have to keep an eye on him because sometimes he attacks my wife's dog, Yet in the house he respects the Yorkie, if they are eating the Yorkie will stand in front of the food and my dog would not eat to the point that he would lay down and cry (

  14. It's just strange that he acts so different outside than how he acts in the apartment.

  15. How can I post a picture straight from my computer?

  16. He loves people, but once again he acts different outside than in the house, outside he will go to people and let them pet him but he will quickly loose interest on the person, yet that same person will come to my apartment and he will want to be on that persons lap and wont stop licking. He is one strange dog

when a animal is lifted most dogs will see it as a prey, 1 once had it with a friend of mine she had een small girl dog shitsu or something like that, And i had a 5 month old pitbull with me. She lifted her dog because they where playing to hard in her opinion, so the pitbull reacted and jumped grab the back leg of the dog and started shaking, It wasn't hard to get him of but we had learned never lift a dog

Try looking into a group social. Not the dog park. But somehing that is in a controled environment. We deal with this stuff all the time.
