Garbage...just my opinion. If your going to feed kibble, feed blue buffalo, taste of the wild or Earthborn. Grain free offered in all 3 which is best for your hound. They are more pricey than what your feeding...but to me it's worth it. Currently I feed a raw diet. Have for a few years. But i have used all 3 of those and consider them the best bang for the buck and most healthy. I understand money gets tight so what you can afford does play a factor. I found with better foods, your dog will stay "full" longer due to better nutrients and less fillers such as grains, soy and corn. They have no nutritional value and are there just as waste in your dogs system. Which in turn makes them empty their bowels more often.

I agree.....unless that's all you can afford, I'd go with the listed suggestions.

Walmart offers a grain free kibble now called pure balance. I picked up a bag of the salmon formula a few weeks ago for the puppies.

If they are the only 2 brands you can afford at this time I wouldn't mix them. Mixing is makeing the food unbalanced for you dog(s).. I would stick with only 1.

I think the OP wanted to know what ppl had to say otherwise he wouldn't have asked. And I sure hope it's a plus that he feeds his dogs, shit, he owns em....he should feed em.

Just because people own dogs...doesn't mean they take care of them or feed them. I've seen numerous yards where dogs are starved...sleeping in their own shit and so forth. Not everyone is responsible and dedicated to the breed as myself or maybe you. So yes...the fact that he feeds his hounds...and is on here seeking advice on what he feeds aswell as reading other threads is a positive in my eyes. If you would have read previously at the top of the thread I gave him advice. Honest advice. But in no means am I bashing the fella for seeking advice or taking care of his dogs the best way he can. It was a simple statement because people are not always responsible breeder, owners or whatever. So my statement was a pat on the back to the fella. Not a put down by any means.

I understood exactly what you meant, and I know that some ppl don't take good care of their animals. I just personally don't think anybody should get a pat on the back for feeding the animals they choose to raise. Asking questions to gain better knowledge is different story, imo. I applaud anyone for asking something they may be curious about or want more info on. So, I guess, if we applaud ppl for feeding their dogs, yea, he deserves a congratulations. As far as dog food goes, I'd just go for the best that you can afford. That's just my worthless .02

Cool. We on the same page then. But yes your right...it should be a given to feed the animals you choose to own. But sadly...people suck sometimes and don't deserve the animals or the right to own a animal period. In tough times...my animals ate when I didn't. But that's just me. They ate whatever I could afford or had in the fridge lol. But they had some food on the belly and that's what was important at the moment. My hounds have put many of good meals on my table aswell as helped me pay bills or whatever I needed. So..in return..they ate when I didn't have money to feed myself. Some people just don't see it in that light ya know. But anyway...back to the topic. Didn't mean to get off track.

ok folks ready here we go. for many years i fed dog chow and i thought my dogs looked ok but i was always adding shit too it cuz it seemed like just the kibble wasnt enough so i add bacon grease meat scraps etc. that was about ten yrs. ago then i had one of my partners turn me onto the feed store and sports mix and diamond so i switched. by the way feed stores are the shit young man fuck petco. havent looked back since feed diamond puppy for pups and hi energy for adults. if you have a tractor supply in your town you can pick up a bag of diamond for what that dog chow cost at walmart. trust and believe you will see a difference man. sports mix is good too and cheap cant go wrong wit that shit just give one a try and come back too this thread once you have ran thru that big bag and tell me how awesome your fuckin dogs look.

Feed the best food you can afford. That's just my opinion tho. Sportmix, Diamond and Marksman are all feeds I've used over the years. And you best believe you better hit that feed store, fuck petco or pet supplies plus! Ol Roy to me just don't get it done. I stopped feeding that when I was 13

Ol Roy High Performance. F*ck the haters. lol... It's a good feed. I don't care what the internet doggers tell ya'. I haven't met one person in real life that had anything bad to say about it. Some of these guys must be ballin', being able to feed 15+ dogs Orijen, or Blue Buffalo, or Taste of the Wild. brb paying $70 for a 25lb bag of food.

But honestly, the raw diet on a budget that Cali Jack has will run you about the same cost per month as Ol Roy will. I figured it out one day and for me it comes out to about $0.26/serving.

I agree with you...CA Jack has a simple feed.

But I look at it like this when it come to the choice of the 2 feeds....you prefer to eat, "cow shit"or "horse shit"? LOL There both shit!

lmao....if ol roy is a good feed then I'm definitely wasting money. I need to hit up wally world right now!! 50lbs. for $6...why not right? lol I do agree about CA Jack having a real basic raw feed layout though.

lol... This is how I look at it. With all this ''high end'' food that is so much better than others, how has it improved a dog's life? The life span is the same as its always been. When I had 1-2 dogs, I fed everything from Taste of the Wild to Canidae to Dick Van Pattens. Every dog lost weight, got dull brittle hair, and became inactive. I switched to Ol Roy HP about a year ago (and sometimes TSC's brand Retriever) and haven't looked back. They have great coats, full of energy, good tone, and are as healthy as can be. Hell, even my inside dog eats Ol Roy Original. lol...

Original is about $18. HP is about $23. :)

Sportmix black bag is a decent feed, too. It runs about $25.

Heck, if it works for you, I'd feed it too. What may work for you, won't work for all obviously. But you're looking at your dogs, not me. So, you know what is getting the results you want.

I agre with OKC i use to feed the Ole Roy and thought my dogs were good. But I leanrned diiferent and by changing I have saw a big difference in my hounds.Thats just my 2cents.But I dont care what anyone feeds .But i dam sure cant say Ole Roy is better than Diamond thats just not what I have saw in my dogs. And I have tried lots of diff feeds.I have even tried locally made kibble without any luck. Not saying Diamond is the best either but its working dam good for my hounds and me.Good price and all i have to do is go to TS which is about 2 miles from my house.
