Dog leaking blood through penis. please help. been to 2 different vets. please i beg

4 months ago my 6 year old male (unneutered) dog dripped blood through his penis. The vet prescribed us clavamox 1 tablet every 12 hours. on day 8 the bleeding stopped.. and its been good for 4 months now. 2 weeks ago the blood appeared again. And it started to really pour it and freaked me out.

The first vet didnt seem to know what he was doing, he didnt even look at this penis. just prescribed the clavamox but it worked... but 4 months later the blood came . and then started to really pour out. my whole garage is covered in blood. I went to new a vet and he prescribed us new meds: cephalexin 500 mg . every 12 hours i give him it with food.. Also this time the vet did a few tests and said if this med fails they need to operate on his penis to see whats going in there. :mad:


on the vet receipt this is what i have


OV- Exam for illness (64$
Sonogram(breif session) ($64)
Cephalexin 500mg ($11.40)



not sure what to do.

He is on day 4 of the meds and still bleeding through his penis at times. I feel so bad. why him ? why...

...don't panic....it sounds like a chronic infection....r...comes in a cycle is he eating ok//etc...it could be kidney/r/adomen...stones...sounds like the new vet will check it out...so if he is ok other-wise, "relax"..the dog "can sense if you worry".....make sure the new vet checks for under-lyeing reasons for this bleeding,,don't be afraid to ask qqq's..about this ////good-luck.......being un-nutered,it could be any-thing was he breed to a bitch.???could be a std/????or a cancer/anything....,,,,but most of these are treatable at his age....so....relax-relax........................

Rather than than pay the vet for these little tests tell him you want a full exam/x-rays...cause some-times they will do things that are un-nessacery...not saying the new vet is ..if it clears up bring him to a vet college/school,,they will charge a-lot cheaper,,an do a full service,,even if ya tell them your short of funds,but if you have money then no worrys................////////??????????????

thank you. and he no he was never bred and never will be. but i do take him to dog shows every now and then just for fun. And yea he is eating fine and acting normal. thanks i will look into going to a vet school to perform the operation.. any sites that will help me locate one that offers this type of thing?

He is giving good advice. I wish I could add more maybee a vet tec will chime in there are a few on the site. Just make shure to keep following up with the vet.

....check your local phone book/g-pages/etc/..and ya should easely be able to find your nearest vetinary college/school....ask your vet for advice if it turns out expensive and ya can't afford it..but wait and see what your vet finds out first,,cause he might figure it out for ya....g-luck........

Where is Cynthia to answer these type of questions LOL.

It could be anything from Kidney problems to a fucked up cock LMAO.

Your vet doesnt sound very thorough get a second opinion by going to another vet.

bump. not sure what i should tell a new vet to check for. what type of tests should i ask for. the meds ran out and my dog is still dripping blood

if it turns out that they need to operate on him i will call my local vet schools to see if they can perform this for cheap. thanks

Just tell him what you know,,,did you get any results for the tests that were done,???,,is the dog still acting ok../?//?????...check your golden pages to-day..and be ready to go there,,,get what results you have ...explain to them that things are bad and ya have'nt much funds,,chances are they won't turn you a-way with out checking the dog out,,,but ya will be expected to contrbiute some funds.....ask these q's when ya get there....at the end off the day it will all depend on "how much this dog means to you"..they will know what tests to do,,just remember to bring any results from tests all-ready done..........................

i had an old male that did this and like i thought the vet said he's straining . he gave me dex pills for it . i'm not sure if this is the same but you should be able to watch to see if you think he's straining to much . i would check the blood for cancer . good luck

What kind of food are you feeding him? Has it always been the same food? If your dog is a crystal/stone forming dog, then you may have to change diet. I don't know if your vet asked for a urine specimen, but I'd get one anyway so it can be analyzed. I'd make sure he is very well hydrated with plenty of water, so his system continues to get flushed. Oh yeah, and let him out often so he can urinate obviously. I'd take the dog to the vet, plop his butt down on the counter and say "hey we have an emergency of sorts here, help". Good luck, feel bad for your hound.

Sounds like a bad UTI. My wife just had the same thing happen a couple weeks ago.

I have a male that does that some times. The vet told me it's a utl. Which will come back from time to time. He told me to give him acv every day and cephalexin when he is pissing blood. An that's been 5 yrs. Good luck,

I had a friend that had a razors edge dog and was bleeding like that and it was cancer. I think if it was a uti he would just have blood in his urine. I'm no vet though just going by what happened to my friends dog. Hopefully it's just a uti

i give taste of the wild dryfood. i used to give a raw food diet but it made him smell. switched to dryfood and he no longer smells.


and i just found out that the first vet did a blood test and saw nothing. and this new vet did take his urine and said she found nothing abnormal in it. so i guess the only option i have now is to get an xray ?


also thank you everyone. the dog is acting fine just bleeding. going to call up tomorrow and get an xray done because i dont know what else to do.

Sounds like prostate problems to me. I've seen it happen a few times. If it's not a UTI, then it's either a prostate infection or prostate cancer. Can also possibly be bladder stones, but you'd notice a change in urination habits with that. Better get an xray for sure.... may wind up having to do a biopsy or exploratory....
