Dreaded parvo again !!

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by DEATH-GRIP, Jul 26, 2010.

  1. If the virus hasn't infected your pup too much, give Parvo Aid a try....ive save three dogs using that stuff. If you can catch it in time, it will save your dog....Parvo Aids for the Inland Empire : Parvaid, Vibactra, Adizone and more is the web site that you can read about parvo aid. They should sell it @ your local feed store. I hope this helps.:)

boogie is a fat prick...this is a game dog site so stfu unless someone asks a question about prancing their pups around a ring for aesthetic and conformation purposes...dg purified or distilled water isn't saline solution...i believe you make it by boiling 2 cups with 2 tbls of salt...subcutaneous is better than forcing fluids orally but not as good as intravenous method...i'm so sorry for your loss...last year i lost my best bitch pup from my own line in the same way...i had to watch her suffer for two days after i spent 200 at the animal hospital for them to tell me she was a lost cause...once again boogie you're a fucking net fag and i hope a real dog man beats the fuck out of you for all the hurtful and simply evil comments you make especially regarding the economic status of others at this point in time...fuck you very much...

  4. What an ideal time for this thread to come up. A friend of mine has a pup that just came down with Parvo. I'm hoping the good info on here will help her.

Well the key to survival is to start treatment at on set. But you have to really know your animals, unfortunately most waite or don't realize what it is that their dealing with. Hell most can't even think about or recall the estimated time of exposure, so they can not pin point the source. That is the average persons mentality when dealing with this particular virus or viruses. Brocksamson, tell your GF to get that pup to her DVM immediately. Most of the info that has been posted on this thread will not help someone or an animal if they do not have basic medical knowledge and applied knowledge that is needed to asses this pup through the stages of this virus.

    Vaccinate your animals ppl!

  6. LOL, not my GF thank god.

She waited to take him to the vet. According to the vet it's past the point where Tamiflu will do much, so.... something about frozen plasma and some other expensive shit. I don't know. I'm amazed people are stupid enough to not vaccinate their dogs.

I couldn't imagine having an unvaccinated 9 month old dog, the thought horrifies me.

I'm hoping for the best for the girl. The dog has been at the vet's for the past 2 days, this thread was reading material while she's been killing time waiting to hear from the vet.

I'm really pissed because she fucking waited because my bf's stupid sister blah blah blahed about how her dog had parvo (I don't think it had parvo, it had something else, she's dumber than a fence post and can't tell the difference between her ass and a hole in the ground, she's lucky she nabbed herself a rich hubby) and all he needed was some shots and a special diet. I guess if you catch it early enough it would be almost feasible, but that's what made the girl wait to go to the vet, and now the dog is worse off because of it.

I'll have to make a note to smack the shit out of my bf's sister next time I see her.

    Re: Dreaded parno again !!

I talked to the vet today about it. Even using that is a risk for infection and slothing off the skin. Drip sets come to us already sterile. And if you were to re sterilze any syringes you need a gas sterilizer. Also you may boil that water however there are still particles in the air, the pot you boil it in has microscopic particles.

Now drinking it is one thing but not injecting it directly in the vein. When we use IV fluids the bag is sterile. the drip set is sterile and also the syringes.
I know what you are saying however it is not the best treatment.

Seems like people ( not directed at anyone directly) try to get out of going to the vet. But sometimes you just have to. Shit I have had to make e vet trips that cost me over $500 dollars.

Mike you have the clinic that will let you treat at home. And if you need anything just let me know.

    Re: Dreaded parno again !!

I want to clear something up. In my experience we do save more than loose. Like Simms said survival does depend on how clinical and depleted the dog is when it is brought in.

We just had a case at work of a 8 month old dog that had parvo vomiting and diarrhea for a 5 days. Now he was older which certainly helps. But he survived.

In my 7 years I have only seen around 4 die. The survival rate when properly treated is around 85 - 95%. When treated at home yes probably on 20% do survive with home remedies.

At the last hospital I worked at when we did place an IV cath and sent the dogs home with fluids, Injectable meds in the 2 years I was the

The practice I work for will actualy let an owner treat at home under the direction and guidance of the primary DVM. Provided the client can provided compliance with the Dr's treatment plan. As this can aid in the recovery of the animal and yes it does help the cost sensitive client. Most DVM's will allow folks to treat at home if the client has established a relationship with the clinic or Dr. I know first hand due to the high volume of animals that is filterd and facilitated in high volume practices, that they would much rather treat and street than risk exposing their entire facility to anything that is infectious. That is the bottom line as to why it is so costly to hospitalize infectious patients.

I am being honest and straight forward. I am sorry that it is hard for you to hear.

Was what you did the best treatment out there? I am sorry but it was not. Was it better than nothing? Yes. But ultimately the lack of proper treatment did result in your pups death. I am sorry but that is the truth. I am truly sorry for your loss. But facts are just facts.

I have been in the Vet field long enough to know that. I also did consult with the Vets I work for regarding what you did.And they are not surprised that you pup died.

Again I did not get out of line but I did state the facts. Sometimes it is hard to accept the truth.

I understand your frustration however while it may have worked before BUT each case is individual. And if you want to educate you might need to do so with proper ways. I see it alot while people have the right idea but doing it half way. Right meds wrong dosage and many other things

We are all here to help each other but you also have to be open when someone tells you that you are going about it the wrong way.

Also all the cusing amd name calling is a bit childish. I realize you are upset BU

You gave LRS, PLASMALYTE, NORMASOL Fluids? IV? Anti vomiting meds?

No you gave distilled water SUB Q. That is not proper treatment. Sorry but it is not.

You may have done the best you wanted to or could do but it was not the best for your dog.

It does not affect me one bit if all your dogs died. However do not come on a public board whining about you did all you could when that is complete bullshit.
