  2. Good post geezuss.........

  3. What about the dogs of yesteryear that quit and went on to produce deep game dogs? How does that factor into this discussion?

Another angle would be how many dogs of yesterdays were really bred the way that the Peds say?

i don't think it factors into the discussion at all... doesn't have anything todo with ability to compete

i would rather choose smarts over hard mouth i dont see why people look after fast lane dogs??? shoot i have seen hunts with fast lane dogs that if they dont stop the hog in less then 30min or so they run out of gas cause they put all there energy in there bite then the hog comes out from underneath to kick the doggs butt

  8. I was going along those lines before. WHat i was told was that is not fastlane. I've also seen styles put an end to supposed great ones that where thought to be "Aces". Again, it all depends on the title of fast lane. When I think fastlane I think of a career like Maydays...

You get a dog who almost became double grand champion.Keep in mind these dogs are hunters which is the most important part
He was good but wouldnt have if Haunch wernt 9 but hey he still good dog, again thats why I told you to get something from mims down from yocum lol. In My Opinion Mims blood has Plenty of Vigor i think He is bolio redboy snooty cross
    none taken my friend
Exactly lol I want my dogs taking home like lebron not doing magic johnson hookshots lol
look in your backyard fellas if your not breeding to have a dog better then zebo yellow jocko eli your going backwards. If your breeding for one thing dont be shocked when the neighbors german shepard mops the chainspace with your hound. The old timers had there time its your time now.

I think there are more good dogs today, but I'll qualify that in saying that there are MORE dogs today, and there are a bit more hybrids out there, hence more dogs with hybrid vigor.
However, in order to be totally fair in comparing dogs then to dogs now, one would have to be able to give the dogs of old the technical advantages we have today, OR, take them away from today's dogs. Then, and only then would the playing field be level in such a comparison.
A great dog then, was a great dog, just as it is now. There were merely fewer of them for the reasons I gave above. But to make comparisons such as these, we would have to guage those dogs back then with today's tech, or today's without it, and since that cannot be done accurately, then I don't believe it can be done at all but to take calculated guesses.

i like this quote from that page to : " Sports records are consistently surpassed by those not satisfied with repeating someone else's past performance. Last years record wont win this years meet." breeders should live by that statement

I don't really think it's fair to try to compare the old time dogs to today's dogs. Dogs today should definitely be better because the standard should always be to improve and never settle for less. But think about athletes. Babe Ruth hit a lot of home runs. But his record got beat by McGuire. Ruth didn't have half the training methods or equip. McGuire had. Didn't have the performance enhancing drugs either. Same with the dogs. I also believe the trainers are better today than before because of increased knowledge. So to compare the two is unrealistic and unfair (to the old ones):)

Most people have always bred for one reason. To WIN! That does'nt mean everyone breeds for the same things, and they never have. Some people thinks it takes one thing, some think another.
