Feeding a dog to cut fat

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by elviejon01, Feb 4, 2018.

  1. I have a dog that I sat on for a while and as a result she put on some weight/fat. I would like to enter her in a few shows this year and was thinking about switching up her diet to help with trimming her weight down. Currently she's on a all live stages kibble from Costco. Was thinking about switching her kibble To one with a higher protein level . I figure the higher protein kibble would be more nutrient dense and I can feed a less quantity of it and this should help cut her down gradually.

    Thoughts?

You'l have to work the fat off also but you could cut the feed you'e feeding and it would drop weight... folks around me use Victor with good success if u want an upgrade though

Lots of walks & same nutrient intake. Or a few walks & less nutrients.

I would lower feed a couple weeks doin the same excerise y’all do now. Nothin serious. After a couple weeks up the workouts and feed. Easy on the feed upgrade or you’ll be back at square 1

Agree with these fellas ^ Maybe look at the Victor stuff for a keep feed. But yeah, cutting the feed gradually and maintaining the same amount of work (or more) will cause the dogs body to burn the fat, just watch the dog and see how it performs and is looking. Do you know the dogs show weight?
