Flea control for yard

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by Kristi, Apr 9, 2011.

  1. Don't take my word for it but I've been using bayer tree and shrub for some time now and it's great. 10-15cc down the back and don't let it roll off. Ok theres my good deed for the day.

I also use bayer tree and shrub. I put a syringe full down the back and spray a diluted solutiion around my kennels. A little seven dust in the straw. No problems with fleas.

Permethrin for the yard with mineral oil, Garlic is good always
Some red cedar wood chips in their house also helps
to repel the fleas. I usually Do the yard and then the dog with Permethrin in
the beginning of summer. Good luck read the instructions well for dilution specifics

I have tried everything mentioned here but none of the suggestions are as effective as Talstar based on my own personal experience.

You can treat the area where the dog in kept by following the directions. I use 1-2 oz per two chain spots or per 1000 sq. ft. one time per year and that is the absolute end to any flea problem. There is no need for any other systemic, flea control unless your dogs run loose or you hunt them a lot. It is expensive but it is highly concentrated 7.9% active. I actually use the generic version its cheaper and just as effective. I have treated a yard of 30 dogs for 3 years running and still have a quart remaining in the original 1/2 gallon jug. I treat 1x each April in my area. Use a high volume spray rig that will put out about one gallon per minute for large areas. Soak the area down throughly. You have to remove the dogs from the area you treat while spraying and keep them off the area until the solution dries. Once it is dry you can move them back on the area and forget about the fleas until next year.

I just picked some up from tractor supply a week ago and it seems to be doing the trick. Also read somethinga while back about black walnut hull but I don't have enough information on its effects to share on the board. Anyone using this?

  15. I use revolution, a topical product like frontline. It is great against fleas and ticks. It also works against ear mites, worms, mange, and is a heartworm preventative

  16. I have been told by a lot of people that dawn dish soap works great for bathing dogs that have fleas. A buddy of mine swears by it.

Dawn will kill them for sure ,it does make a good flea bat..You can also kill wasp with dawn and water..i have thrown it on wasp nest and it will kill them..from what i understand the wasp lungs is on the back so the dawn and water suffocates them..I wouldnt doubt if flea has the same deal lungs on the back..it will dam sure kill them.

bad year for fleas..i put out granules and still wound up having to spray and I used some flea prevention called Vectra and it worked really well for me..Got it from tthe vet,its pricey 55 bucks for the large size dogs and split it between all my dogs..they got 4 to 5 cc,s..was 8 dogs...vet said he went to Vectra because the frontline just dont cut it anymore.

muy bad i should have mentioned 2 dogs were jack russells they only got 2cc,s and I had a lil left from the last time..so 3 tubes of Vectra wont do 8 dogs at 4cc,s..i was just trying to give a reference for something that does actually work well.
