i have been catching fresh fish fellaying it and purifying it in the blender and feeding it to my dogs, and it has been doing real well. fish is a good source of raw protien without any fat. just thought i would ask others opinion on this as a topic starter.

Fish is an excellent source of the Omega Fatty Acids...when we fed the BARF diet, on every Saturday the dogs would each get a can of tuna. When we have had fresh caught fish, we would give them a whole fish, not all of them will eat them whole, but some will...

I know I have given them some blue fish...to be honest with you, me and catching fish don't go together, so when others have caught fish and given me some, I've given it to the dogs. We also had a thing with a local grocery store where I could pick up all there scraps or stuff that was close to being outdated, and have got fish from them, including some flounder...

Teh fresh fish will work real well we use Catfish mainly Blue and Channel Cat. But Just about any fish will do some good but be careful and don't give too much.

i gut the fish fresh and then freeze it in single servings, double bag it and it stays good as fresh caught for a long time (dont know how long cause it never made it that long without being used).
kinda surprised more dont do the same

was going through the forums today and came across this one , old thread but thought i could add a little something. when you feed fish feed it whole , head guts n everything its good for em (yes even the fins) at most i would cut off th scales which i doubt matter anyway. something you have to remember when feeding fish, there is a specific salmon that you CANNOT feed our dogs as it is high in mercury levels and another reason i cannot recall at the moment. Ill try to get back to ya with which salmon aint too friendly with our dogs.

I'd be curious to see if you can find an article or something on the salmon, as I had never heard that before. As far as feeding whole fish, we've done it and some of the dogs love it and some of the dogs won't touch it. I had one that loved it so much he'd try to swallow the things whole, was nasty as hell to watch him eat the fish lol.

  14. when you say u feed a can of tuna...u mean like the blue can with the oil in it and everything or do you drain the oil

i understand tunas are huge so it would be better to feed pieces of the whole tuna instead of canned tuna, but if you wish to go with the can yea you need to drain the oil

drain some of the excess oil, but the oil won't hurt the dogs.

I also heard that feeding a dog fresh raw salmon can be deadly. I'm not sure if its the type of salmon or if its salmon period. I'll see if I can find that article as well. Until then I would just feed moderate amounts.

when feeding a whole fish do you take out the bones or just blend it all up?

I throw them the whole fish when I have some, head and all. Some of my dogs will go to town and chow them, some of my dogs turn there noses up to them. None of them turn there noses up to Tuna or Mackeral.
