I have an 8 year old male who started to get some problems with his joint. For one month I was giving him a combination of Glucosamine (1000mg), Chondroitin (400mg) and MSM (200mg). His joints improved after two weeks and after one month I started giving him just Glucosamine (1000 mg). In several different sources I've found that after 8 weeks Glucosamine amount can be reduced but there's no info how much reduced. Do anyone know how much Glucosimine it is okay to give for a preventive use?

Thanks Inter-tel but I am not looking for an alternative supplement. I am very happy with the result I have now. I just try to find out can I cut the dosage of Glucosamine and for how much! Like is it okay to give not 1000 but 500 or 750 mg for preventive use? And I don't think we have that Orthovisc in my part of the world.

Why reduce it?...find a good cheap source of Glucosamine & chondroitin and give them the max dose.... it will do them no harm to give them over the stated dose...have treated an old dog of mine with it for years no problem....Glucosamine & chondroitin TOGETHER are the BEST supplement for joints

*Your best bet is to call California Jack, he's very knowledgable about this subject. He also states that giving the liquid Glucosamine is the best(NOT Glucosamine HCL), liquid produces better results and is assimilated into the body quicker, which is Pharmaceutical quality Glucosamine, he recommends 500 mg. a day to750 mg's a day is all they need. I can put you in contact with him if you pm me. Hope this helps.

Glucosimine is far more effective when used with Chondroitin as this acts as a transporter to get the Glucosimine into the joint...have treated an old dog with arthritis from a smashed eldow joint and also a bitch recovering from cruciate ligament surgery in the way i have discribed...you get no placebo efect with a dog it either works or it dont...imo if you giving the supplement am and pm wether its in liquid or tablet form makes little real differance
