Hello I’m Rob I’m from the Netherlands,

I want to join this forum because I’m a Pitbull (pet) owner, but I’m reading for some time now and I don’t no if its wise to do?
I understand by reading over here that I can’t be a APBT pet owner, it’s just not possible for pet owners, even if I’m doing it now for over 28 years without mayor incidents.

I followed the breed for 8 years before I got my first Pitbull myself, so I’m following the breed for 34 years now, from 1985 till now.
Mind you when I started to get some knowledge about the breed there was no internet so I got my information by talking with Pitbull people and reading books and buying magazines like Dogs With Spirit and visiting Pitbull shows!

I remember this now as a very nice and social time and learned more than most kids now do with the internet.
My first dog I got 29 years ago was a big pedigree Boxer, that’s my second love in the dog breeds and they can fight to, believe me he did, I learned a lot from him. Lol
After one and a half year I got my first (Rednose) Pitbull, an APBT with out papers so I call it a Pitbull (that’s the term over here in the Netherlands) you in the USA call it a mutt.

I had learned at that time to step in a fight from my Boxer and I knew were I got into, I was 24 years old at that time.
I knew the heritage of the breed and I took the Pitbull knowing I need to keep it on the leash and after the puppy socializing she wouldn’t get to play with other dogs than my male Boxer, the Pitbull was a female from two Rednose Pitbull parents.

In the first year or so we got the BSL (RAD) over here in the Netherlands and I got to sterilize the dog, keep it on the leash and put on a muzzle so I did, not always the muzzle I have to say, if I put the muzzle on stupid people liked to let there other breeds come up to my dog, I did not liked that.
Whenever that happened I picked up my Pitbull and kicked the other attacking dog myself (lol), other times I let my Boxer on the leash get between us and defend us, he was free to fight from our coverment because he was just a Boxer so I used that.
Everything went just fine the Pitbull never got in an incident and never did anything to my other dog the Boxer, I remember them with respect and love, the Pitbull was DA but not towards my other dog.

When she was gone the BSL was still on over here so I got myself a cross pedigree Boxer X Pitbull male he was a 95% Boxer phenotype only one like that in the litter he was so an cool dog did not fight but would defend it self, he did not liked humans very much but never an incident, you have to know and read your dog and train them a bit.

When the BSL was finished over here I got in my car and bought myself my second (Rednose) Pitbull female, the APBT dad of here had a UKC pedigree ( Chinaman was in there multiple times ) and the mom of here had no pedigree, both of the parents where Rednose Pitbulls.
My dogs got along nicely, than when she was 1 and half year all hell broke loose and she tried to kill my big Boxer X Pitbull male, I had to fight them off and after a view times in a short time I gave up trying to manage the fighting and the crate and rotate begon, did that for 5 years until she died of cancer, I always keep thinking the cancer came from stress!

The Boxer X Pitbull cross lived long after that and it did not effect him in any way.

I was tired after those 5 years crate and rotate and the American Bully got over here in the Netherlands so I took the change to try them out, they were a new breed a more docile breed upon other dogs and at that time there were beautiful Bullies being breed, they broke that now.
I got myself a Razors Edge XL Bully, she became a beautiful dog ( 50 kg ) and the love of my life, she was very docile to my Boxer X Pitbull male she looked up to him, on the street she was okay with other dogs if she didn’t like a dog she would crowl and the other dogs wanted to run.

From here I learned that you almost can’t breed out DA it will turn up at an other point, she was from the beginning HA you couldn’t walk up to me she would get you, so I managed it no incidents ever, she did not get very old because of the now known joint and hips problems with Bullies she got 6 years and I have had to end here life a view months ago, I miss here deeply and I hope the Bully deforming will stop, I will never get an Bully again of the health problems not there personality, that I love.

This is just a global telling of 29 years having dogs with spirit and living for them, I did all these dogs with my wife and we got one child to, that was born when my first Pitbull still was around, she don’t know better than Pitbulls are great.

I’m 52 years of age now, I don’t have dogs at the moment so it’s the perfect time to get my big love again and keep it alone, so just one dog, the story is not over we are in 3 weeks beginning with a new page in our Pitbull life.

We are getting a new doggie and it’s a male APBT with a real nice ADBA pedigree, we are excited and prepared and looking forward for it, he is fully paid already so it will happen.

This is the first time we got the money for a purebred APBT and over here they were hard to find in the past because of the BSL law of the past.

As last I don’t think the APBT or mutt Pitbulls are for everyone, you have to let there energy out, tell your self they will fight so you have to make sure they won’t get the change to get in a fight, they don’t need dog friends they are man best friend and begin with schooling yourself before you jump in to it.

I’m not breeding these dogs and never will because I should not know who I would sell them to.
But on the other hand if you are willing and prepared for the things I wrote it’s doable.

    Grtz, Rob.
( I hope my English is readable )

    Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you have learned how to manage these type of dogs. They are not for everyone, but they can make fine pets and companions.

Yes, a shame the Bullies are bred so badly with such poor health and structure problems which give the dog a short painful life. The APBT is an athletic breed and should stay that way, and yes the DA is part of the breed.

Best of luck with your new APBT, congrats!

    @ brindle, thank you

When the Bullies came out as a cross of APBT showlines crossed with American Staffords founded by Dave Wilson it was a beautiful breed than the overall people began crossing all kinds of Bulldogs in the breed and they broke the nice beginning of the breed, it’s a shame if you look at most Bullies nowadays!

Let’s see if I can get some pics on, I will begin with my oldest dogs first, don’t have a lot of pics of them we did not have the good cams on our phones back than!

First dog is Lady, she was a big female rednose Pitbull ( mutt ) from 2 rednose parents, we got here at 6 weeks ( to early in my opinion ) but we managed just fine, she was DA but not towards my other dog a male pedigree Boxer, they stay at home together because she would never break something from her boss, not even the other dog.

Lady we got here in 1992,

Next picture remind me that I was a young dude that did stupid things, I stoped doing hurting trees when I got a little older but it is a nice pic to show a mutt can do things to,

Last pic ( this are pics from paper so the quality is not so good ),

In a view days I will continue with the next dog, I’ll try to stretch it out till my new dog is over here in my house, that’s the moment I really can say he is mine and show him to you.

Pleas remind to all I’m in the Netherlands in the EU and not in the USA so all was and is a little different over here.

    Grtz.

    Nice looking female.

I've never had much interest in the American Bully, but I have seen what you mean about the earlier ones. A neighbor has a 12 yr old male, he is a big powerful dog but he has decent structure and has a nice temperament. I asked how he was bred and the guy said he was his son's dog, that he had papers on him but could not remember how he was bred. That old dog has no trouble walking and the guy who owns him says he's the best dog he ever had.

But most of today's American Bullies look like deformed mutants that can barely walk. A shame, some are worse than the English bulldog. Why anyone would want to bred and create dogs like that is beyond me. If one want a nice pet, there are many pit bull types that are physically sound.

I was a little busy last week but we will continue with showing some dogs I got in the past and I was telling about in my introduction.
Next dog is/was Chilly, he was a real cool dude not DA but he would defend himself, he was a Pitbull x Boxer cross and a big guy, good listening and always happy, he got 12 years old.
He was the only dog in the litter as a Boxer phenotype, people always saw him as a Boxer and it was during the BSL law so I was happy about that!!

To get the pics on here is terrible but will continue as promised!
Next doggie is/was Demi a Pitbull with out pedigree again, but her dad got a good pedigree but her mom didn’t, she came out of two rednose Pitbulls, there was Chinaman and Eli in the ped from dad, she was DA and just before the age of two years she turned at my other dog Chilly, eventually we did crate and rotate for 5 years, for me she was a real good friend!!

Last but not least was Abby, she was the last dog we got and she is just gone for 3 months now, I’m still broken, at the end of this week we are going to pick up our new doggie a male APBT pure bred with a very nice pedigree so we will have again a dog in the house.
Abby was an American Bully (Razors Edge) and she was a beautiful Bully but also to heavy for her bone and joints structure and at 6 years we could do nothing for here any more, she was HA so doing big medical things was no option to!
For the family she was the dog to have so lovely and good listening but the health lead me back to the APBT, never a Bully for us again.
