Even if biggest is bred to biggest doesnt mean you will get big pups! Case in point.. new a breeder that was trying to breed bigger dogs (male was around 90 lbs, he had even sired some large pups) Well, in breeding one of those pups that ened up being in the high 80's, he told owners the pups would be big. GUESS WHAT the pups stayed in the 40's-50's lol Needless he had a lot of upset people

LOL. I WASN'T USING THE CAPS TO SCREAM. I AM WORKING ON SOMETHING ELSE. FORGIVE ME IF YOU THOUGHT THAT, BUT ANYWAY, I WAS EDITED BY YOU FOR ASKING A QUESTION IN ANOTHER THREAD, SO I FIGURED IF THAT'S YOUR MODE OF THINKING THEN YOU WERE ACCUSING ME. THEY WERE SOME PRETTY INTERROGATING QUESTIONS, LIKE THE ONES YOU GET ASKED BY A DETECTIVE THAT ARE ALMOST ALWAYS USED IN AN ACCUSATIONAL FORM.

I was not including mixed breedings. I was just saying that if a person breeds two APBTs together for looks, etc...then they are becoming AmStaffs. Here's my point of view on APBTs vs. AmStaffs. Try to follow along...

2 APBTs bred for work= APBT litter
2 APBTs bred for looks= AmStaff litter
1 APBT/1 AmStaff bred together for whatever= mutt
2 AmStaffs bred for work= AmStaff litter
2 AmStaffs bred for show = AmStaff litter

Here's the confusing part. I believe that APBTs and AmStaffs are seperate breeds now. Yes, the AmStaff came from the APBT. How did this happen? Breeding APBTs not for their ability, but conformation. After so many generations of this, in general, AmStaffs lost their gameness. Once that is gone, you can't breed it back in, which is why even though you can have a game AmStaff, it won't readily produce game dogs like a game APBT would. This is a horrible analogy, but think of a caterpillar (APBT) and the butterfly (AmStaff). The butterfly comes from the caterpillar, but it can't go back to being a caterpillar. Confused yet? :D

So if amstaffs have lost their gameness, would you say its ok for amstaffs to go to dog parks/beaches?

I DO PARTIALLY AGREE, HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT THESE LINES HAVE ALSO GROWN AWAY FROM THE AMSTAFF ALSO, PUTTING THEM EVEN FURTHER AWAY FROM THE APBT. THEY NEED A NEW NAME, BUT HAVE NO ONE WITH THE PROPER AUTHORITY TO GIVE IT TO THEM. THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE THEM BEING CALLED APBT'S HAVE SAID MUCH, BUT HOW MANY HAVE ACTUALLY DONE SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I REALLY AM INTERESTED IN THE BREEDING OF THE APBT TO AN AMSTAFF BEING A MUTT WHEN BY SOME THEORY THE APBT CAME FROM A BULL DOG AND A TERRIER.(NOT NECESSARILY MY TOTAL BELIEF). DOES THIS ONLY APPLY IN THE CASE OF THESE TWO DOGS (APBT TO THE AMSTAFF) OR OTHERS ALSO? YOU HAVE CONCLUDED MY POINT EXACTLY, THE LINE OF DOG DOES NOT MAKE IT A STAFF, IT'S HOW IT IS BRED AND WHAT FOR.

NOT ALL STAFFS LACK GAME, SO YOU DO HAVE TO BE CAREFUL. THE MOST GAME DOG ON MY YARD IS A STAFFIE. HE'S AN INSTIGATOR AND I WOULD NOT TAKE HIM TO A DOG PARK OR A BEACH.

Re: Health problems associated with "blue pits"

No, the correct wording would be not all am staffs have lost their animal aggression...Animal aggression will never be completely bred out of either breed of dog

I am not taking my pit anymore anyway. But he would be considered a bandog because of his huge size.

SOME PEOPLE MAY ALSO CONFUSE EXTREME PLAYFULNESS AS AGGRESSION, SO IT REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW CALM YOUR DOG IS TOO AND HOW MUCH YOU HAVE ALREADY SOCIALIZED HIM. ANY DOG CAN ALSO HAVE UNEXPECTED AGRESSION WHETHER THEY HAVE BEEN SOCIALIZED WELL OR NOT. A CERTAIN LOOK CAN ALSO SEND PEOPLE RUNNING...LOL...I HAVE NOTICED, HOWEVER, UNLESS PEOPLE ARE ALL-AROUND DOG LOVERS, MOST DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT AN AMSTAFF IS WHEN YOU TELL THEM, SO IT USUALLY DOESN'T SCARE THEM.

TXb I think your coming to a conclusion diffrent from what is being said. If you look back to the first posts of this thread (which were quite awhile ago) you will see that right from the start we said the problems were per-say because the dogs were blue but because of bad breeding practices. Those breeding practices are prevalent in all "types" of this breed, not just blues.

MY REPLY WAS ONLY IN REGARDS TO WHAT WWII SAID, NOT THE ENTIRE THREAD. WHO IS WE? I TOTALLY AGREE WITH IT BEING THE BAD BREEDING PRACTICES, I SAID THAT IN A PREVIOUS POST.

I have to disagree. Thats like saying well if you breed two cairn terriers together for a light color that they become westies. You guys are the ones screaming Am Staffs and APBT are two different breeds. you dont breed two yellow labs together and call them golden retrivers. So breeding two APBT together because they look nice doesnt make them Am Staffs. AM Staff + Am Staff = Am Staff, APBT + APBT=APBT Lab + Lab = Lab ect.

Re: Health problems associated with "blue pits"

I find it very funny when people really get on the I hate Blue bandwagon. The same old arguement is used, they are not really pure, they are not game, they are ugly, they are the dogs that are killing and biting people. Now lets get back to the real truth, Blue is just a desired trait, just like gameness, just like weight, how many dogmen out there want game dogs, how about 100% do, when you put down the Blue APBT you are hurting the breed. I will guarantee you there a game Blue bulldogs, I will also guarantee you there are jerks from both sides of the table who breed these dogs just to look good. Now I am not a big fan of the gang bangin, drug dealin crowd, but that doesnt mean I dont like the Blue color, and I resent anyone claiming that I am a piece of crap just because I like Blue APBT. I am a 38yr old Caucasian male, who happens to be a professional and successful tax paying American, oh yeah I also like the Blue APBT. The true problem lies in the narrow minded people who can barely see past the end of their nose. That type of person is the same type who is trying to pass BSL laws all over the United States. If there is a genetic problem with these dogs I am sure someone is going to eventually cull it out and we will eventually have 80+ pound Blue, Game APBT, if it is not allready out there.... You have to love the whole breed, that includes Am. Staffs, Game Grand Champions, and Blue monsters, That does not mean you have to own anything that you dont want to own, it just means educate and help people to make a better dog.... This is just my opinion and I hope it offends everyone LOL.
