ice on head alone will not take overall temp down to fast if put on for short time then removed for a short time then placed back on for short time.but the brain needs to be cooled asap.My vet says u do more irreversible damage to brain the longer u let stay above temp.I think everyone is agreeing the overall temp needs to come down gradually but what dont yall understand about every second the brain is overheated irreversible damage is being done.Every vet has a diff opinion and the only Correct way is the one that works for them.Ive said all i can say and im not saying anybodys vet nos more than another.Just remember to keep them cool a properly hydrated everyone and yourself.

Well well looky there Using ice for heat stroke can cause vasoconstriction That means the blood vessels will constrict or narrow which will raise blood pressure and body heat and cause a lack of blood flow throughout the body. Very nice little read Cynthia thank you for posting it!!!!!

Well lookie here, the first thing on that list it says Spray with water, and what does everyone have at home that they use to spray water on? A fricken WATER HOSE!!!!LOL

Now with that said I do understand where Old Goat and Mr.Revolution are coming from as I have heard from some Old Time dog men that knew some old time vets and they will tell you alot of things that can actually work aint found in no text book and aint taught in no school but learned through actual experiences or from other knowledgable people, I heard of even some old time dog man teach a senior vet a thing or two about after care, meds etc..

I think yall are misinterpreting Old Goat about ONLY putting ice on the dogs head, Im sure they tried to use tap water first to cool down the dog , but a dog that is severly overheating , tap water aint gonna work fast enough so a ice pack placed on the head or where ever to help bring the heat down faster.

When a dog over heats his internal organs gets fried , and when they get fried the internal organs SHUT DOWN, and dog dies. So the faster you can bring down his internal temperature the faster you can prevent his internal organs from shutting down.

But hey what do I know I aint a vet or expert like some of yall LMAO.

Hold up, let me throw up my disclaimer> What ever I say on this site is all fictional and used for entertainment purposes only LMAO.

Wow well avoid Ice. What is Ice? Frozen water. Which means it is cold. Therefore avoid cold temps. Common sense.

Yes you want to bring the temp down as fast as possible. However you need to do it properly to avoid other complications. Which can result in death as well. I bet that those that did it with ice and cold water did not know what lasting effects it had on the dog. They were to worried about bringing it down. Not the lasting effects.

Seems as though people who get proved wrong get pissy. Which I find very comical. Lol

There is only one problem with a water hose saiy what happens if you are not at home? I don't know anyone who walks around carrying a water hose with them lol a lot of times it doesn't even happen at home so a hose is not really going to help if you are not at home when it happens.

Yeah the ones using ice probably never took the dog to the vet either to have them looked at they treated them with ice and went on about their business because the dog seemed fine after words but that doesn't mean the organs weren't damaged or that other damage wasn't done you can't find that out unless you take the dog to the vet.
