in spite off how tough these dogs are they really don't respond well to physical punishment.from my experience it really doesn't take more then a firm voice to get your point across.these dogs are eager to please.the only time i will get physical with a dog is if he/she is testing me and even then no more then necessary.i find nothing worse then a hand shy dog.

Bullshit, If my dog EVER tried to snap at me after i hit it they would be dead dogs! They are loyal happy dogs. They know I'm boss and they will feel a momnet of pain for doing something naughty (if its bad enough) normally a stirn WHAT THE F DID YOU DO scares them.

I agree with missapbt. If I mention the F word the dogs sprint to their kennels.
I see nothing wrong with hitting your dogs when they have misbehaved.I dont condone exsessive hitting like with sticks or a leash. But you have to do what you have to do.
My Chyna girl coped one yesterday for leaving the park and running onto the road.Sometimes words are just not enough.

The f bomb rules when it comes to the dogs.

By the way why are you teaching your dog to rip your clothing up? thats just weird.

The first thing that you learn here in the dog program in the military in Sweden is, Never hit your dog. Where the fists come in the knowlegde ends.

haha yea hard dogs definitly seem to understand f***.

wtf lol have you ever looked at the "Visitors found this page by searching for:" bit at the bottom?

theres a big difference between a lil disciplining slap and beating up your dog. i dont think anyone here is condoning hurting them, just when you come home to the dog redecorating..lessons need to be made clear

I don't "hit", I "pop" lol. Hit to me seems like a hard slap/punch. When I pop the dog on the nose or butt, it is not hard enough that there is ANY pain whatsoever. However, it gets their attention and lets them know that they are doing something I don't like.

Lol, the "visitors found this page by searching" thing is pretty funny.

Anyone who feels the need to hit their dog has already failed the part on raising a puppy.
You NEVER want a dog that fears you. You want a dog that trusts, respects and loves you as its alpha.
When a dog does wrong it's usually when young, so talking to it in a firm voice and saying "bad", lets the young
dog know you're disappointed. APBT's are among the most trainable breeds. They want to please.
Yes, I've heard a tap on the nose is a useful thing when they are pups, but I've never needed to do it.
A swat on the rear with a paper is effective at getting their attention also. It hurts their feelings, not their body.
And a dog that was taught proper behavior while a pup, built on trust, rarely displeases when older. JMO.

yea id agree with that. if you crouch down to their level nd kinda growl "baaad" thats generally more than enough to let them know, You've gotta worry about some though ..for example the visitor that got here by searching "hit your dog game" :o

  15. i only hit my dog twice, and the reason is enough for some to kill, but fuck it. my dog doesnt like when people mess with me and one of the girls i live with likes yellin at me and he tries to go at her. i cracked him both times she did that and when he went at her both times he stopped and looked at me and sat down and did what i said. i think that in training hitting the dog is wrong but if he crosses that line you have to do what you have to do

I pop my dogs in the nose as pups when they play with their mouth. It stops them from using their mouth on humans. They are not hand shy at all but they don't dare use their mouth to play with humans. The other timei popped one of my dogs was when one of them thought he was going to defy me and growl at me. He never did that again.

I guess, It's okay to hit them but be sure there are reasons why you do such thing.
Dogs are also genius, you should let them know why you hit them.

If they're a genius wouldn't they figure it out or know?

primarily, they need guidance :) and a little of patience from the handler :)

Some of them sometimes need alot of patience from the handler. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of "would have been good dogs" have been ruined by people with little or no patience.
