<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I dont understand why anyone would want to cull a dog for being blind or deaf,... these are APBT's they can be blind or deaf and function as good as a dog without the disability. look at blind billy.

    oh LOL.

after thinking and looking.... most of the dogs 1900-1940's were white. so many look like my bitch.

some people may have crossed a mutt in there obviosly from looking at the original post LOL...

but to say a cirtain color comes from a diff breed is a bit off,.. thats like sayin the tri colors come from a rotti lol.

We can SAY what we want, but this is a RECORDED ACCOUNT of another dog (in this case bird dog) being bred in. Oh, but so many of us have them, so they just CAN'T be mixed ... right? ;)

As it stands now, ticked is considered dominant to non-ticked. There are three different gene combinations found in the T (ticking) series. Those are TT (heavily ticked) Tt (lightly ticked) & tt (no ticking). So that means a ticked dog HAS to have at least one ticked parent.

I researched Rattler's pedigree & ironically he has Williams dogs in his pedigree. Irony? I doubt it. lol.

    Blessings ... ;)

EDIT: forgot to add - the tri color DOES come from a different breed. The Staffs & later APBTs inherited it from their Manchester Terrier ancestors. It's just considered a "natural" color in our breed today b/c it was infused before breed type was set.

Yes, I heard Yoda was a good dog & has produced good dogs. His owners are also real nice people. Rattler was also a real deal bulldog. All the more reason one should not judge a bulldog by it's color! ;)

But that still does not change the fact there was a documented outcoss to a ticked breed (bird dog).

    Blessings ...

randy is one of the best storytellers i've ever met. and like all great storytellers i think some of his tales have been "embellished" over the years to make the story more interesting, especially to the people who have no real experience in the game.
don mayfield used to say the same thing about others dogs, that they were somehow crossbred. if i remember right he said bullyson's mama was part great dane.
the bottom line is if a dog comes up spotted or merle its obvious to all but the self deluded that the dog is not a purebred bulldog.

Colors come from everywhere in our breed. The blue came from the Blue Poll, tan points from the Manchester Terrier, ticking from the bird dogs. Boston Terriers have also been bred in, as have Bull Terriers, American Bulldogs & according to the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog Club of American the ABBB was used "extensively" in the creation of the APBT (this would introduce the merle allele if that were true).

Even those who have "pure" lines often have incorrect pedigrees. That is why I laugh when I see those Carver bred dogs that come up blue. That is a throwback to the AST stuff he used to use from Peggy Harper!

I don't see how anyone could look down their nose at anyone else b/c I doubt there is a bulldog owner out there who doesn't have a question mark in the pedigrees of his or her dogs somewhere! ;)

    Blessings ...

thats not a "ticked" dog. thats a white bulldog (APBT) with spots, a very common color.
that yoda dog is a ticked dog. obviously a crossbreed. that dog and his offspring were peddled in the gazette for years. another example of how the ADBA would register anything with 4 legs and fur as an APBT so they could make a buck off it.

There is a difference between pigment spots of the skin (as seen above) & truly ticked dogs like Yoda & the bullies pictured here.

If those of you who have ticked dogs want to assert your dog doesn't have bird dog in it, that's OK. But once again I would like to point out that ticking is dominant. That means a ticked dog MUST have one ticked parent. HOWEVER ... I will say ticking only shows up on white fur & CAN be hidden by a colored coat. BUT even if the dogs has a colored coat the ticking WILL show up on any white areas of the dog (i.e. white chest, white paws, etc.).

You guys & gals are more than welcome to your own opinions about your dogs. But we have a written account of the crossing occurring & the genetics (ticking is dominant) don't lie. The ticked dogs may not have got it from the old bird dog cross. Or maybe they did. Who knows.

    Blessings ...

  19. that is definately not a catahoula bulldog, they are much more american bulldog shaped and bred to be working dogs, not lawn art.
