I was talking to a guy the other night and my neighbor about he's dog which is a pit bull and he made the commet" what kind is he american or what" the boy said american and he yah he is because of he's head and some stupid stuff about he you can tell the american by this and english by this and the blues by this.
So my Q is how can you tell the diffrence between the diffrent typs of bull dogs?

now i know i'm going to be BASHED HARD so i am going to [IMG] and say go ahead. I know verey little about this.

THERE IS NO "ENGLISH PIT BULL" OR ANYTHING ELSE, THE AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER IS THE NAME FOR ALL "PIT BULLS" (UNLESS MIXED W/OTHER DOGS. THOUGH THERE ARE SOME DOGS I HATE HAVING THE NAME, BUT THATS WHAT IT IS...

I HAVE HEARD THIS AS WELL, MOST OF THE PEOPLE END UP HAVING PIT BULL TYPE DOGS, AND THINK OF SOME "FANCIER" DIFFERENT NAME TO ADD INTO THE PIT BULL PART. WHAMO, THEY HAVE A CUR EVERYONE IS INTERESTED IN, AND IT SNOWBALLS FROM THERE.

I HAD SOMEONE TELL ME THAT THEY HAD A 'BROWN BRINDLE NOSE PIT' FROM ONE OF THE ONLY 'BROWN BRINDLE NOSE PIT' BREEDERS IN THE STATE.... I STILL CANT BELIEVE I HAD SOMEWHAT OF A STRAIGHT FACE AFTER THAT SENTENCE LOL

Yeah, people always ask me if my dog is a "red-nose" or a "blue-nose" I tell 'em she is a "rare" freckle nose pit...

Maybe he meant AmStaff or SBT. I've heard people call the SBT english. I guess technically they are. Some people think AmStaffs and SBTs and APBT are the same thing. Not everyone out there is as educated as we are, LOL!

Just more idiots. This is the first thing "experts" of the breed learn is there are 6 bloodlines "red nose" "blue nose" "American" "English" "Gator" "boodroo". Its backyard peddlin 101....idiot Joe down the street has been breeding these dogs for 5 years and makes alot of money with his huge dogs, so he must really know what he's doing.

I'd be intrested in hearing his explanation for why each dog is what, lol.

After 100 years of cross-breeding the diffrent origined stock, I find it inconceivable that every dick and jane with a 150 lb. blue-nose, pure-bread, Gator/boodro pitt would be able to tell a diffrence when we cannot ;)

I really dont think that is a valid excuse for their stupidity, sounds to me like an answer to cover their asses.

No disrespect intended but my research indicates the following:

    "pit bull" = slang term

Breeds of dogs included when using the term "pit bull" = APBT, American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier --- that is what is meant by our beloved BSL fanciers

Now I find from experience that doggers use pit bull to refer to a game bulldog, and Staff to refer to a mixed breed dog...and APBT mixed with anything else.

i know there are english staffordshire terriers that look much like the smaller pitbulls that range from 30 to 40 lbs. i can't tell between those and some apbt's.

The AKC decided to register Pit Bulls but under a different name - the Staffordshire Terrier, which was later changed to the American Staffordshire Terrier in 1972, or AST. Up until 1936, Pit Bulls and AST’s were physically identical. After 1936, AST’s were bred solely for conformation and their breed requirements became much more stringent. APBT’s were being bred for both performance as well as conformation shows and the breed’s standard became much more lenient. The AST’s, phenotypically, became “flashier” with blockier heads, larger chests and a thicker jaw while the APBT’s varied phenotypically from lanky to stocky. Although the phenotypic expression varied in the APBT, relative weight, size and proportion remained constant and dogs over 60lbs were rarely seen. Both AST’s and APBT’s were bred to be exceptionally sturdy and extremely human friendly, not to mention athletic, courageous, and tenacious. BTW there are so many versions of this, I somehow thought the Staffordshire Terrier was a smaller dog than the Am Staff, predominantly from England.....may be wrong but that is what I thought.

If you are referring to this dog...it is a Staffy Bull:

    Height: Dogs 14-16 inches (36-41cm) Bitches 13-15 inches (33-38cm)
    Weight: Dogs 25-38 pounds (11-17kg) Bitches 23-35 pounds (10-16kg)

He was not referring to either the SBT, AST or English Bulldog. What he was asking was, was the dog an English Pit or an American Pit Bull Terrier?

An "English Pit" is a dog seen in the South that is part English Bulldog & part Pit Bull. An APBT is meanwhile is an "American Pit."

Another question they'll ask you in the South is if your pit bull a "bulldog" or a "terrier." What they are really asking is is your dog an American Bulldog (bulldog) or an APBT (terrier).

    It's a Southern thang, y'all wouldn't understand. lol...

Yeah. Not all blues are bred to be like that, but most sites on the net do advertise bully style pit bulls. In general, it's "rare" to have a dog that throws the color blue, since it's basically a gene defect that dilutes black hair. But, if you are getting blue after blue litters where all the dogs are blue, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some neo or presa thrown in, or maybe they are just breeding blue to blue, which is bad. I know that if I ever start a yard and breed, and I get a blue pup thrown, I'll make sure he gets fixed, if I happen to keep him or not. Especially right now since there's a fad going on. this was posted by WWII in a other theard "bluffs"

Me neither, arent english bulldog/pit mixes just being called "bully pitts" today. LOL

All joking aside, the ONLY time besides your post I have ever heard that, is from wanna-be's with "Texas Rednose bloodline" and such.
