when i was younger it was frowned upon to sell either terrier or lurcher for more than £25, that was the price,no one even asked before buying.

I would say that is a fair price from the man that had so much to do with importing the breed and keeping them to a standard,,,
very similar to the importance of John P.Colby's breeding efforts...
Mr.Mason might not be as significant and popular to the dog world as the Colbys but deserves a certain respect in that light
and $1k might be a lot for a working terrier but I feel you get what you pay for to a extent and plenty of well known kennels base
is Masons Arnie including deadgame kennels who ran a nice site for a while...
Personally If I lived on the east coast I would chose a deadgame terrier as he has a passion and really gets after it...
If I lived on the west coast i would have no proplem spending money with california catchers
and in the middle of all that I think Mr.Mason is a great choice...
I have seen great terriers sold with out a pedigree for $150 and them with papers from worked stock for $250-350 but feel they should retrieve
    more...

JMO I would never pay more then $600 for a good terrier pup and if I can find a good one for $150-$300 I'm in.To get the lower price you have to be in the terrier loop which is very small and they don't trust many folks these days.Hardcore guys will even let pups go to other hardcore guys for free as there just trying to breed better hunters and do not rely on puppy sales.Mason and others like him have built a big name for themselves and sell to newbies which is fine.I had one of these guys sending me tons of emails a couple of years ago of patts for sale problem was he started at $800 bucks and UP for me but really he start at a $1000 and UP...No thanks just not my thing,,,,just not that hard up for a dog.You could tell this guy was hard up for money and was living off of dog sales. To each his own,,,,depends on how fast and bad you want a new patt.

The reason I commented above is this...

I was under the impression he only sales to working kennels not the general public. My thoughts are if your not selling them to working kennels then what is the point? Only reason I commented is because I personally know a young lady who bought one from him and she has zero intention to work him. She bought him cuz her neighbor basically lied, having a white colored dog, and told her is was a patterdale...I told her patts don't come white...lol

If my memory serves me right around 5-6 years ago Mason was selling his patts for $400-$500 bucks. Maybe its inflation. LOL
