Hi everyone Im interested in stepping the confirmation show ring, Ive kept bulldogs in the past and used to step in a different type of ring, now Im older things are not as safe as they use to be and I want to continue to be involved with bulldogs I would appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction in gaining info on the confirmation point system how a ch becomes Titled, what it take s to win a ribbon ect. I know some of my question might sound a bit elementry but we have to start somewhere.

Wait until Boogieman gets on,he's our expert in that area. He's got a bunch of trophies so he should be able to give you some good advice.

Here is what the ADBA has to offer. American Dog Breeders Association

There are other articles about the weight pulls, etc.

I would go to the the ADBA website and study the conformation standard. That will help you learn what the judges are looking for.

To Champion a dog it takes a 100 points. To G/C a dog it takes another 100 after that. From then on you earn G/C 1,2,3, and so on for every 100 points after that.

Puppies earn 5, 3, 2, points for placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. The puppy age classes are listed on the ADBA site I believe. All 1st place puppies go back in for Best Puppy of Show and the winner gets a trophy that earns an additional 10 points.

Adults earn 10, 5, 3, points for their placements. The age classes are also listed on the ADBA website. All 1st place dogs go in at the end, plus the Best Puppy, and compete for Best of Show and Best Opposite Sex. The judge can pick a male or female for Best of Show, but them must pick the opposite sex for the Best Opposite. The Best of Show earns you an additional 15 points, the Best Opposite earns you an additional 10 points.

Once a dog makes champion it then must enter the champions class. Placing in the champions class earns you 15, 10, 5 for placements. If at least 8 of each sex show up the champions class is split into males and females. Once the top 3 of each sex are picked then the first place male and female go back in and compete for the champions cup. That dog receives an additional 5 points for a total of 20 for winning champions class. If at least 8 of each sex do not show up then males and females go in together and 1st gets the cup, 2nd and 3rd earn ribbons.

My suggestion is find a show close to you and attend. It's a laid back, easy going environment and you can expect to see some good dogs and meet good people. Jumping right in is the best way to get going.

Bring your dogs BBQ and some chairs and have fun, don't forget a cooler and some extra cash for vendors.
