I am probably giving too much information but here goes.

I have a 6 year old red nose out of OK that my son gave me when she was about 8 months or so old as he could not keep her in his apartment. She stayed with us and a very old Rottweiler that we eventually had to put down. Since then she has been around my son's new dog, a Neapolitan. That relationship went good until the female Neo got bigger than her. They had three knock down drag outs (funny thing though no puncture holes???) that broke up with a garden hose, but on the third argument the Neo pinned her to the ground and that seemed to end all problems from then on. That was two or three years ago.

Now I bought a male yellow lab, 9 weeks old. My female pit has her nose out of joint so to speak. She'll play with the little fella in the back yard (a big yard about 40,000SF) but in the house she is kind of stand offish. Acts all indigent has barked real loud at the little boy when there is some difference of opinion.

My wife and I have read all the bully books etc. and are being very firm but reward good behavior. Since his arrival the pit seems to be more protective over the house and us. Barking at people walking in the street etc.

Are we doing things ok as far as the pit goes? I am asking this because this dog of all dogs I have owned is the most temperamental of all. Reminds me of a spoiled rich girl that never hurt for anything and now...

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

PS to Chinasmom: We did introduce them for about 30 minutes outside of our car before driving home with the little critter. Don't know if this is neutral ground or not?

Well, my advice is a little too late I think. They should have been introduced to each other on nuetral ground. The dog is showing dominance over his domain. Good luck though. Hope it will work out for you. :)

be sure to keep them crated whenever you are away from them.

Well, since I first entered this thread things have been progressing rather well. We have been awarding good behavior for the girl and she is going along with the game.
Yes, we have two dog kennels and they are in use.

She has started playing with the lab pup but is being very careful not to step or knock him around which is funny because she used to love banging into my son's Neo. Maybe that will happen as he gets bigger?????

Thanks for the input. Like I said this is my very first pit and it has been a learning experience for me and my my wife.

Owning this breed as pets and having other dogs around is most the time a losing battle.

Do you really keep them seperate when you leave your home? If you dont, you may come home to a bloody mess and dead dogs one day because of a disagreement over a kong toy

My advice is get rid of the lab. No offense but I cant stand labs.
