I was at a friends last week and he had an old dirt track car tire that his male and female were chewing on and loving it. After seeing them I thought mine might like a tire to so I pulled an old one out of the shed and she took right to it, but I didn't let her for long as it was a steel belted tire. Are nylon belted tires ok for dogs? What's this I hear about toxicity?

I've seen dogs chew and eat worse things.

I gave all my dogs a tire awhile ago to mess with, but they didn't do much with them. I have one that messes with it every once in awhile. He's the only one that has a tire now. I haven't seen any ill affects...

i wouldn't use any tires w/ a steel belt in them. that's a good way to grind down their teeth. i don't know about it being toxic as i don't use tires.

My dog took to right away and my buddy's dogs seem to love them, just not sure if even without steel it's safe.

I've heard of people giving their dogs tires before with no problems. In fact, now they make dog toys that are smaller, thinner, tires. Just make sure there is no steel belt.

I wouldn't use a used tire, ya never know what it's run through or over. Then again new tires always have that chemical smell to them to, so I dunno. I'd think they would be just like any other toy, fine with supervision and as long as they aren't able to pull off little pieces or ingest any of it.

I used to let my dogs play with a tire , but I saw what it did to their teeth , so no more tires for mine . I read that the chemicals used in it can cause damage to their teeth and gums , and saw the effect . Better of with a rope , or an old towel , or even an football . Toys made from rubber don't have the same composition as car or bike tires , so it's ok to used them .
