Keeps Throwing UP

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by B_And_Bubba, Jan 22, 2006.

  1. I am new to this site, and this is my first time writing a message. SO thaks to anyone who writes back. I have a year and a half old male APBT. For the last couple months he has been throwing up. Somedays he throws up 5 times. But sometimes he'll go a week or two with out throwing up. IT always looks like it is water, but it doesn't always happen right after drinking. IT normally has a couple pieces of food in it too. I was thinking it is because he had parvo when he was 8 weeks old, and he might just have a week stomach and intestines. SO if you have anything that could help please let me know. Thank You

My girl has been doing that the past couple months. But it was because she was eating grass. So i kept a eye on her and now she hasnt so keep the dog from the wood and see what happens.

First, I would take him to the vet to make sure there are no underlying problems, which is what I did. Mac, my two year old male, tends to drink way too much water, then will vomit it back up after he runs around and plays. Since he was cleared by our vet, I now monitor his water intake very carefully -- he gets numerous small drinks throughout the day, rather than free-water all the time. You MUST be careful doing this, because your dog can get very dehydrated very easily.

Good luck with him, and welcome to the site!

yup, I'd say vet time, ESPECIALLY since it's been on going, and not just a fluke thing.
Get an exam, rule out any underlying causes, and then take it from there. I'd rather be down a few bucks, but have a wealth of knowledge;sound piece of mind.
    and yes,
    "Welcome"!!!!
    hope all turns out well.
    keep us posted!:)

My china also throws up water sometmes when she drinks, but it starts out like a cough and then the puddle. I think maybe she just drinks too much to fast.

  6. Well I got him to the vet. And the vet didn't see anything. He said it was one of the healthiest dogs he has ever seen. But he went ahead and gave us some antinausea/vomit pills. And said after a week of these well go back. He said it could be some kind of nervous disorder. but anyways I'll see what happens. If anyone else has any suggestions let me know. Thank You

Working with animals in the past we always withdrew food and water when an animal vommits for a few hours. There is a theory that dogs eat grass in order to clean out their digestive thract. I know of many animals, cats and dogs with chronic vomitting, clear bile with occassional peices of food or grass. What are you feeding your dog? You probably need to switch him to a sensative system diet. It is extremely possible that you are right in assuming that his unhealthy start in life (wonderful you conquered parvo!) has left him with a less than fabulous system. The first few months of life are so crucial to their long-term health.

  8. Wow thank You Riptora. Thats exactly what it is. He will throw up and it is clear and sometimes has a few kibbles of food in it. But it doesn't happen everyday. He only did once in a great while when he was still eating puppy food. And I didn't think of it till this morning that it started happening a lot more often when I switched him to adult food. SO I will probably put him back on puppy food. He eats Harvest authority. It is one of the only foods that he will. eat. He is a really picky dog. Even with treats there are only a few that he will eat. Do you have anysiggestions as to a good brand of food that is for sensitive stomachs? I would hate for him to have to take that anti vomitting pill everyday for the rest of his life. Well thanks for any suggestions. Have a great day. Oh yeah and by the way how do you get your dogs picture to pop up under your name?
