the reason i asked is because i saw one in my neighborhood which was unusally large to be a pitt.

 

Then it was either just a large dog, or not a bulldog. People are breeding Blue Bluffs (See 'Standard for Blues' thread) in order to make a buck and ruin the breed.

These are the big mastiff mix pit bulls you were probably thinking about.
These have whopper down the line and I think they may have reupped on Mastiff since then as well.
