You got me thinking about about bird season now! bird season here opens September 15. I like going out for ruffed +sharped tail grouse. There's not that many around any more my neighbor who's a older guy in his late 70's says that the 2 4 D weed killer sprayed on the fields is what wiped them out. My grandfather says when he was a young boy around 8-10 he could go out with a .22 and shoot as many prairie chickens as he had shells to bring home. Not like that here anymore.

We have lots of ducks of all types and a couple types of geese. Our grouse would be similar type to your quail. I bet doves sounds like a great time I can imagine it weather is probably awesome sun just starting to set I got a good picture of what its like in my head. I took my blue dog out for birds once and he would go get them and bring them back but wouldn't let go little stubby bastard. I think I had to use a break stick nothing else I could do, more I tried to get it more he wanted it. lol

Wardog and I used to go Pheasant hunting a couple years in a row before he got jammed up. Short drive too from our houses. About 15 min. We have Turkey, Quail, Grouse, Doves, Ducks, Geese and you can shoot Northern Starlings, English Sparrows and Crows endlessly. I love bird hunting. I can't say what's my favorite as I love any kind of bird hunting but I would probably have to agree with you bama. I love pumping rounds out on Dove. They are everywhere here.

Lol I shot one with a Ruger M77 .270 cal. I have from about 30 yards one time years ago. Cloud of feathers and we never found the bird. They make nests in my house crests. Drive you fucking nuts with that pur of theirs.

Not much of a bird dog or a game dog but he is one hell of a weight pull dog and a good guard dog. That's a ruffed grouse in his mouth white meat bird.

My 870 is so old (I got it from my grandfather) I would have to buy 2 3/4". I have shot a lot of clay pigeons with that gun, coyotes, birds and have never had a jam no mater what type of ammo or a dirty gun. Its a fixed full choke with a 30'' barrel. I dropped a coyote at at least 100 yards with 2 3/4'' Federal 000 buck (8x.36cal round ball)

This 20 gauge had no pad.It was light and kicked like a mule and would bruise your shoulder.870 had a pad and didn't kick as bad @nd wouldn't bruise you up.

Give a boy a single shot that beats the shit out of him and he wont go through so many shells. When I was young I use to use this old beat to shit single shot 12 gauge I think it was a coey anyhow it probably shouldnt of been used it had duct tape holding on the forestock and sometimes it would open after you shot it. Had a steel but pad but it always worked. I remember I found some old shells in the pump house that were card board cased and the size of shot were called SSG not sure what size that is but pretty big shot I also found some card board case slugs that were loaded with a musket style round ball I think the box said Peters on it. Anyhow I shot all those through it and I am still around. My collar bone was just bruised like crazy was 12 years old and a skinny 110lbs.

We have 2 ttypes of Dove one is a big Dove like you would see around in town and we dont hunt them .We have a smaller grey gamier type Dove that we do hunt.We plant a field and I think its 2 weeks before season it has to be disked up.We get them use to coming in the field and when season comes in we sit in the fields and pick them off.Good eating to , I season and wrap them in some thick sliced bacon and put them on the smoker.I took some out of state people Dove Hunting last year and they missed a lot of Birds and was frustrated but had a good time .Dove is small and they fly very fast so it takes practice

Wish the conversation hadn’t turned to hunting. I been dreaming about deer season the past couple of weeks. Trail cameras going up this weekend. Damn I can’t wait.
