maniac, I'm glad you are keeping the pups yourself.
peddling puppies is ruining the breed.

I think it's all about the circles you run with.

For example as Maniac has noted, we know both folks who have had success with dogs bred down from Lonzo blood to this very day. But the Zebo/Vindy blood is our interest so we make sure to keep our ears to the ground to keep up with what's going on within that line.

But on the other hand take me for example. In 13 years I haven't seen a single solitary J/RB dog that has impressed me in any way. BUT ... I do not surround myself with J/RB fanciers either, so I have not seen or kept up with who is doing the moving & shaking in the J/RB world. So does this mean there are no good J/RB dogs out there b/c I haven't heard of them? Of course not! It just means *I* haven't been keeping up with the goings-on outside of my circle.

The fact is every line has it's good & it's bad & if you do not keep up with what is going on outside your line, you'll miss a lot. It's not like people are out their advertising their business any more. So if you haven't heard of it, it doesn't mean it's not so. It just means for whatever reason, it has passed your detection.

And to answer the OP's question - yes, there are Lonzo dogs who can stand their ground & then some. Both crossed & pure the blood can be an asset to anyone's yard if gotten from the right source. ;)

    Blessings ...

Of course there are more & these are only the pure dogs, not the crosses. But once again I would like to stress you MUST get your stuff from breeders who have good stock. If not, you'll have likely wasted your money.

I had a buddy that ran that blood, so I saw more than a few hunt. Not even one was game. Not one. -But if you crossed it, you might get some good ones.

lol-you want me to try to track down dogs pedigrees of dogs that quit, so you can see them?? I do remember my buddy giving Lozo a hard time about it at Terry Williams get together in 95, right in front of James Crensaw, and Bert Sorrells. All lines have quiters- that's how the cookie crumbles, but when you pay an arm and a leg for them, I'm sure you want a couple to work out. I'm not saying they are all bad, Just that they are a low percent. Most people like them because they read a Statton book, and they think that they are the best, with out having a clue on what's current or fast lane- And as everyone likes to say " you haven't seen ALL of them" No I sure haven't, and if there working for you then that's all that matters. My only concern is the newbies that get into the dogs, and they want a good bloodline, and they get a line like that, only to waste their time.

-But I will say that the L Pratt line is the best looking blood line out there. They look just like a bulldog should look!

And if I had, I wouldn't admit it! There's this thing about admitting to a felony ... well, something about it just doesn't hit me right. Jail doesn't suit me. lol. But let it suffice to say in my 13 years I have floated around a bit & talked to many hunters & have yet to see or hear a J/RB dog that impressed me. I knew a couple of fellows who talked real high on them, but they couldn't actually show me anything. The line (to me anyway) seems entirely over-rated. BUT ... I urge everyone to use what works for them. J/RB doesn't float my boat. But if you like it, by all means use it.

Malaki: Yes, they do very well crosses - I don't have all the time to post all the peds of the winning Lonzo crosses right now!

As for the others teasing Lonzo, I can see it. In the later years be began breeding for the almighty $$$ so his %s likely slipped. That's when those funky little tank dogs of his came out too. Some even accused him of slipping an English Bulldog into his lines b/c his dogs went from athletic, to short & stumpy.

As for paying an arm & a leg, you sure are right. Ole LP would make you pay out the nose! That's why I never bought a dog from LP myself. Plus, I preferred to buy from a person who was still actually working the line!

As for what newbs read in RS's book, that could go for any line. They could read about Jeep & get a junky Jeep dog. Heck, they're on every street corner.

That's why I urge buyers to do their research!!! If they do their research on the Lonzo line they likely won't be wasting their time & I doubt they will be disappointed. Will they all work out? Of course not. But if one does their homework BEFORE buying, the likelyhood of getting positive results is greater.

As for the LP line is the "best looking," ONLY if you have an old type dog from a working breeder. If you have one of those modern type "frog dogs," you have nothing more than a miniaturized American Bully. Some *might* like that look, but that look is NOT supposed to be "how a bulldog should look." (not a working APBT at least)

    Blessings ...

the fact of the matter is most so called dogmen screw up more dogs than they actually admit. This line of dogs is not the typical sit on a chain and rot for a year and half on crap food and just put me to work. Many lines of dogs are very easy, because of there lack of brains. And anyone whos actually been around to see hunts can tell you that redboy dogs are typically dumb, jocko dogs too, as well as many others in their pure form. Lonzo dogs are very smart dogs, but at the same time, they are late to major as well, more typically seen in the pure dogs. With that said, most dogmen i meet never truely understand this concept which is why many so called dogmen cull at the age of 18 months or deem dogs cold at 2 yrs old. A simple lack of knowledge, now put a lonzo dog or any dog for that matter into a knowledgeable, educated, patient dogman's hands and watch the difference in the level of good dogs he gets. People keep talking about breeding, peddling and this and that, put any great dog in a idots hands and you will watch a great dog turn to shit. Every week we read about a different idiot doing something stupid with ther dogs, i meet more idiot dogmen than good ones and most of you can agree with me. So take a line like the lonzo blood, that in my opinion, needs alittle more work and dedication than most other popular lines, give them to a honest dogman who knows how to bring up dogs properly and tell me this line of dogs isnt fast lane. Just because someone with no patience thinks a line is a a waste, doesnt make it so. Ed faron didnt think hollingsworth dogs were worth anything, sold every single one he had, but we all know that was a mistake in judgement. Keep sleeping on this line of dogs, the only people who will be hurting are the folks who lose to them.JMO:)
