Mayday anyday, catchweight dogs are just all-around much more versatile.

 

Eh,, they eat more, shit more, take up more space and are a lot harder to handle. I'd go with Chinaman myself simply because in phenotype he is the standard physically, damn near to a T and Mayday is not. Could be though because I have a dog some what heavy on Mayday blood and He's a damn retardo. Lol.

 

Shitting more is not a real issue and any active dog breed (working dogs) will need a lot of space, its a marginal difference. Mayday dogs can be used as catch dogs, hunting dogs, man stoppers, etc. Chinaman? not so much

 

I have no interest in manstoppers. I have a gun for that and no dog alive is more efficient at stopping someone than my Ruger is. If I did, I wouldn't even bother with this breed of dog as a choice. I'd get something bred for that particular purpose. Human aggressive bulldogs get dirt naps here. No exceptions. We don't have boar here so catchwork isn't of interest to me either though I have a few down south that catch just fine at their weight. To each their own. By space I mean they need larger dog houses, more living space and such.

 

A man stopper could always be useful, perhaps not to you but not everyone owns nor carries the gun with themselves. Plus a notion that a 40 lb dog could perform good catch work is a louse one, at that weight the boar won't even be phased.

The majority of good ones are tho, 50-60 pound range is not a rarity for them. And dogs who do reach that size look like carbon copies of Mayday.
