I dont think it's neccisarily people "dissing" the breed itself. I think it's mostly just the fact that most of the breeders call them APBT's, which they ARE NOT, which most APBT owners would take offense to. And I think also the factor that most people who breed those dogs breed for size and color before game or drive or temperment...in which you completely lose the true meaning of a bulldog... JMO:)

Marty, if it is all in her genetics, Why are there so many other photo's of her that she don't even look half that good? wouldnt you say genetics play a big roll on the way a dog is put together and structured, but diet ammong other things contributes just as much?

this is D'S Bud, he to is naturally built well, in this picture he has not been through any conditioning training at all. but as you have stated before, he does have a good diet, most time he is on the property and on a cable run, that in its self is execise. he can come up a real treat if ya do work him a little/diet/rest, and lean him out a little, but he aint going to get ripped look'n just by sittin down doing absolutely nothing. i think some people do really struggle to try and get there dog in really top shape comparing it to someone else's dog but dont realize thier dog just aint made the same. you need to really understand what is a good balance of Diet/Exersise (not necessarilly work as such) and rest,
maybe you should explain in depth a little more about the way little bit looks so you dont get some newby trying everything to get thier dog look'n like her and do the dog some damage.;)

nothing to do with my post above,
 lol, what some people will do to a dog just to satisfy thier own twisted idea of the way they want a dog to look. develope a breed that is genetically unstable/defective, bulk with no structure to support it, look at the poor old british bull dog, what twisted minds did to those dogs over the years, geese, if a dog cant give a naturall birth, wouldnt you say they werent ment to be bred( no birth, no strain of dog) thats how it was ment to be obviously. have a good look at a good majority of show dogs (any breed) take a look at the so called standard, what it once was and take a look now as to what people have inturpreted that standard to be. and as for some of these other things being posted, well im definately going to correct you on one thing if anything, "hart of an apbt". nooooooo way!

I belive part of it's genetics and part of it is the owner's understanding of the dog's build. I worked my dog a lot and fed her fairly well and wasn't sure why she hadn't bulked up (even though she went from 32.7lbs when I got her to 40lbs.) I then saw some pictures of the "real" pitbull and realized that I had already gotten the dog's muscles developed, but they were hidden under that fat, so I gave her better quality feed and cut the portions and started to see a very athletic dog. She was still 40lbs, but it was muscle instead of fat. So to finish up I believe alot of pitbulls are misunderstood when it comes time to make them look good. So many people focus on weigh and size that they mis the fact that these dogs are genetic athletes and need excercise and good nutrition, not just calories to get "thick."
