Now we all kno either u are born with it or not..but I have a ?.....can a pup (17mths old) mouth change when he gets older??...can he bite hard as a pup and then mouth get soft as he gets older or can he bite soft as a pup and as he get older develope a vicsious mouth??...the age range I'm talking about pups (16 to 17 mths) grown dog (24 to 27mths)...I'm always listening to ppl talk and heard this and wanted to ask...can a pup mouth really change that much from those ages???...I always thought u were born with a below average mouth, average mouth or a above average mouth.....anybody ever heard of this before???

I always believe they bite hard bc they want to so I don't see why not if their mindset changed their bite might change with it

depends on the dog....but i don't think the actual mouth changes all that much but the seriousness or intensity that changes with age/maturity....let's say he bites with 100lb/per inch (just a bogus number) at 18 months and he is just figuring things out....then at 30 months when he is mature and has some bad intentions he can do more with that 100lbs than he did as a pup....

i believe you can teach any dog to bite hard the same way we can developed the dogs lungs we cam also teach to bite hard and hold the bite now some dogs are just born with the abilities to naturally just crush any thing they get their jaws around and even those naturally gifted dogs can be developed to bite harder

if you can teach your dog to bite harder can you teach him to scratch too?

some don't bite hard till they get bit hard. some bite hard and can't take the punishment in return. some bite hard out of fear and quit when they can't stop the game dog on their ear.
i'll take a hard scratching dog anyday over a hard mouthed dog. mouth is WAY overrated.

depends on your definition of 'old'
to me 5 or 6 isn't old, by 8 years old they begin to 'get old' and go downhill fast.

I read some dogmen thought his dog to scratch on command and trained them to go for a particular spot.. dont how true that is...but i kinda agree that biting down is a mindset and as a dog matures and develops bad intention and a mindset to go his mouth should be harder and his intensity would amplify this effect

i would have to say ,said dog develope mouth as he get older.wouldn't see why mouth would get soft as it gets older.JMO!

I do think they can bite harder at 30 months as oppose to 16-17 month. With intensity and maturity come hardened muscle. Ever heard of the term "grown man strength" ?

    What up Willy!

I agree with the poster above. I think, like in humans, there comes a time the actual muscle fiber becomes mature. The actual training of these muscles may even increase biting strength, but when a dog changes his mindset when biting it won't matter how strong his masseaters etc. are.

So when we talk about hard biting dogs would it be crazy to talk about dogs with nasty intentions and those bad intentions being genetic?
I believe some dogs like to fight and some dog want to destroy another dog. 2 completely different mindsets

I don't believe "intentions" to be genetic traits as much as Styles may be. An Average Mouth hound that works a hold is far better than a Bear Trap that just lays there.

Intentions are a function of mindset, mindset is a function of temperment and intelligence. Temperment & intelligence are both inherited traits. So, why wouldn't intentions be inherited just like style?
