Dogs still think a lot like wolves. Yeah I could use a break stick but it's not like I wanna be carrying one around with me all the time.

The post was supposed to be to introduce my new odd looking bitch. Due to lack of preparation before taking her on the decision was made that she wasn't for us. Dogs need leaders, as do wolves. Break sticks aren't there on the street so I'm used to my methods. I keep my dogs as family dogs these days so don't have crates, chain spots or break sticks around.

Even if your dogs are only house dogs, you need to have a break stick.

A break stick could come in handy. Saves risking losing my arm. Thing is I'd say 80 percent of dogs living in my area are staff / bullboxer / bull terrier / pit type dogs. Many are walked without even a chain and frequently are known to get into fights, quite often the dogs die or are seriously injured, a Stafford / pit type dog that lives round here recently killed another dog in a fight. Dogs would be frequently matched outside the local shops at night. I've known guys who have owned several show bull terrier and been breeding them at a high level and still have kennel fights causing injury in need of veterinary attention. The owner of the bitch I got recently has two other Staffords. What I'm trying to say is around here pitbull / bulldog type dogs are very common and from the thugs with nothing better to do, to drug dealers, professionals breeders to the family man, nobody is using break sticks! I doubt 50 percent would know what a break stick is.?I don't know anyone using chain spots! Nobody gives much of a sh#t about the quality of a collar.

Now I'm not saying you guys are wrong, and thanks for the advice, I'm saying these dogs or at least as a type to generalize are common, if not highly over bred. No obviously I'm not talking about a well bred dog, but I have never claimed to go for a well bred dog. I'm not the only guy around here who might be making mistakes. I think I do a lot better than a lot of owners I see out there, who let their dog out into the street as if it were a cat to walk itself cause they are two high to look after them properly.

I admit my mistake of having a new dog a day before the crate arrived which would have helped the dogs to bond better in time, hopefully.

I'm not saying my method in managing a fight was a good one but was pretty funny, if only I had CCTV in my house.

Truth is my dog and bitch I have now get on really well and are very docile in the house, I'm keeping it that way for the near future at least.

Blue8bull I get what you are saying totally. I have to agree that sometimes you shouldn't have more than one as a house pet and to be honest a lot of the time the dogs are much happier in the company of humans. I don't agree that they aren't house pets though, their reliability with children is one of their defining characteristics.

.... I was looking back through the documents from the kennels I got the rescue dog that seemed to want to attack everyone in my area. Beneath the lines where it states she is great with children age five plus, cats and other dogs, it does clearly state her behaviour issues with strangers and that they may need correcting by a professional. Serves me right for overlooking that. Shes not bad now though.

quality of the collar doesn't matter but it's funny how you seemed to have a 2 inch bulldog collar after I said something. Thier are other members from over seas and I never heard them post no BS like this ! This site tries to teach proper containment and responsibility not the dumb ass stuff you keep posting !It just keeps getting worse and worse from you jbl !

Anyway before this thread turns into a heated debate I'm out of here for a while. My inputs been given, I get too sucked into this. bamaman - Education comes through experience, so I have learned a lot today. It's been emotional.

..... And cheer up you lot, these are dogs, not baboons armed with submachine guns.

    God bless :-)
