well, I've been to more than a few terrier events myself, and never ran into a wheaten terrier. They're def not earthdogs, and I could be wrong, but I thought they were like 40 lbs.

There are probably are 40 lb. wheatens but most are 20-30 lbs. I think you might be thinking of airedales instead, they are around 45-50 I believe.

there are 50 lb wheatens and 80 lb Airedales out there, and I know the difference

how big is the tube at those earth dog dealies? who was putting it on?

The events I have attended were put on by various terrier clubs in the midwest, and the tubes were 9" diameter.

Newschool, are you the guy from New York City that doesn't own any dogs?

I am from NY, but I do own dogs. There are quite a decent amount of people in NY that has dogs, and not ambullies either. Don't let the fact that someone from the city with dogs fool you, not everyone that lives in the city has dogs on collars, involved in gang activity, etc.

That's a big ass airdale and a big ass wheaten. I don't doubt that there are, but what is the quality of the dogs healthwise? There are 150 lb. rottweilers out there too.

Those earth dog "dealies" were hosted by a group of people called The Ryder's Alley Trencher Fed Society (R.A.T.S.). Not sure on the size of the tubes but I'd say probably 15x10??? It was a fun show/demo of their dogs and all terriers, dachshunds, and mixes are all welcomed. Some of the members host demos etc. occassionally at large, known parks such as Forest and Juniper. They are a group of fanciers of breeds used for vermin control and hosts these demonstrations.

"on spiked collars." Not all of the people from the city goes for that thug gangster look that everyone seems to believe.

looks like a staffordale mmm. i have seen 5stone staffords before ,80lb seems rather heavy for an airdale terrier even though it is the largest of the terrier breeds .i can only speak from what i have personaly seen in the uk .maybe they are bred more for size in the us ?

SCWTCA - Page Not Found Thats the standard written out by the breeds parent club, describing a deep chest , not a good earth dog trait at all. Using a wheaten in the earth was probably not done too much, but if they make the artificial sette large enough, then I guess they would fit. I could see using a wheaten as a draw dog, after the earth dog has either pulled the quarry to the mouth of the tube or the quarry has been dug to and they let the wheaten in at that point to draw. no right or wrong answers here , just an opinion based on vegas odds.

    I. Rescued my Patterdale too. He was also being abused. Beaten in his crate , and also in trucks? Hestill is terrified of trucks. He loves people but is wary of men, esp if they raise their arms. He was 3 mos when I rescued him . Now he is 2 .

These are some pictures of Caleb. He is a great guard dog, loyal companion and truly man's best friend! I want to help him get over his abusive memories

there are no "proper" wheatens in america as far as im aware. They are very rare in ireland where im from although some of the old badger trialling strains have been maintained (not k.c registered)-youd be very surprised where a bigger terrier can get if they really want to.Most of the foundation stock of patterdales taken to the states would be regarded as quite small relative to their european cousins as i believe groundhog is the major quarry species over there.Maybe the dog in the photo is a throwback to his larger ancestors-i covered a bitch with a 35lb patterdale about 2 weeks back-definitely no bull in him (parents ,grandparents,g.grandparents owned by his owner).-he looked a lot smaller until you picked him up.

reason for beating Patterdales, my money is on constant bark bark bark, they are the loudest, most wound up breed possible. Doesnt make it right of course but they sure do make a sht ton of noise
