Nature's Domain dog food

Just went to costco's today I seen they had this new dog food called Natures domain Salmon. I heard they also had a turkey one but didnt see it at costco. I also did some research on it and it said its made by diamond and is the same dog food as TOTW. I bought a bag to try it out and see how my dogs do on it. Price Tag was around 32 bucks for a 35lbs bag. Anybody else try it yet?

 

No havent tried it. I would be very interested as well because I pay $45 for 30lb. bags of TOTW and 3 a months is getting rediculous haha. I did a little research and from what a I read on the analysis of each product the TOTW is a better kibble all around but for the price that Natures Domain stuff seems like a steal! Anyone else know?

 

I use to feed TOTW and used either the Bison formula with the high protein content or the Salmon formula but I stop using it cause it cost too much lol. When I opened the Natures domain Salmon dog kibble today it looked and smelled very similar to the TOTW Salmon kibble.

I was just told over the phone by a Costco buyer that the Costco Nature’s Domain is basically the same as TOTW but that the manufacture doesn’t want to sell this product under TOTW at Costco because of their other accounts.

 

I feed my dog Nature's Domain salmon formula and he does just fine! He's eating four cups to maintain weight, so I don't think I'm saving much money.

 

same here my dog was getting four cups just to maintain weight with out exercise.other than that he looked good,shiny coat.solid stools.so i ended changing his food to canidae grain free.every dog is different so give it a try.

 

BBU aint ya dog like 60-80lbs? The feeding guidline on the Natures Domain say 4-5 cups for a 60-80lbs dog.

Same feeding guide for Taste of the wild salmon is 4-5cups for a 60-80lbs dog

Natures Domain protein is 24 and fat is 14 while TOTW is 25 protein and 15 fat.

Also there ingredients look very similar.

looks pretty much the same to me except the meat content is higher in the TOTW. same basic ingredients though.... too bad i don't have a costco anywhere close to me. :-(

 

If salmon meal is the first ingredient I personally wouldn't fool with it. First ingredient needs to be meat, not meal or by products in my opinion.

 

If you wont eat it yourself, don't feed it to your dogs.

Good point, the word Salmon "meal" worries me also.

 

TOTW is arguably the best kibble. Natures domain like many kibbles, is great and any dog would be lucky to eat that as oppose to 98% of the commercial dog food brands that just suck. Its better for your budget and far above average dog food so I would stick with it if I were you. I have no kids, thats why I buy TOTW

 

actually, meal means the dehydrated product, which is what actually goes into the kibble. fresh meat may be on the ingredient list of a food, which is great, but the ingredient list is listed pre-dehydrated volume. so, for example, if fresh meat is the first ingredient listed on the bag, and a meat meal is the second, the meat meal actually has a higher volume in the finished dehydrated kibble product than the fresh meat does. so theoretically, the fresh meat would be further down on the ingredient list than the meat meal listed in the finished kibble product. if this makes sense. meal is not bad, just means dehydrated product as opposed to whole pre-hydrated product. basically. a bit more goes into it, but that's the gist.

Which formulas you comparing? The Salmon and the Lamb formulas of TOTW protein and fat content is very close to Nature's domain salmon and turkey formulas, even the ingredients is close like the examples I posted above with the Salmon formula comparason. Only the TOTW Bison and the Fowl formula is way higher in protein and fat making only those two formulas IMO 5 stars due to having more protein/fat content but the other two TOTW formulas like the Lamb and Salmon are only 4 stars just like the Natures domain due to not having enough protein and fat content.

Diamond company likes to give the lower formulas too sell at costco at a discounted price and keep the higher formulas for themselves.

Bottom line the edge does go to TOTW. BUT IMO the only two formulas worth paying more for is the Bison and the Fowl but not there Salmon or Lamb formula which is almost the same as Natures Domain Salmon or Turkey formula but cost way less, and lets not forget its still made by the same company lol.

Anyone who ever used the TOTW Salmon formula , go out and buy the Natures domain salmon formula and you will see that the shape and smell is basically identical to TOTW.

But who really knows as we all know how honest dog food companies really are lol. ethoxyquin free? lol.

 

I went to Costco today to buy the food we have been feeding our dogs for over a year now (Pelican Bay-Grain Free) only to find out that they are now carrying Nature's Domain. It is very comparable to Pelican Bay (and TOTW) however.....this food is made/manufactured by Diamond Dog Food Co and if any of you follow the dog food recalls--Diamond is the TOP food that has always been recalled. In 2009 76 (?) dogs died after being fed bad Diamond Dog foods. So my concern is with their manufacturing techniques--and where they get their ingredients FROM...not that its not a quality food. Any other thoughts?

 

It had melamine in it from china. Diamond is all some will feed and never had any problems. Sure would be a bitch to loose a good dog because of a bag of food that you bought.

 

Have used this food with my standard Dachshund for the past two months, he loves it and his skin is improving and hair more glossy and softer. He also has less "gas" - buy it at Burbank Costco, they do not carry it at the Alhambra store.

 

I bought it. I have three dogs that were all on different foods for different reasons, They all love it and there have been no problems at all. THe list of ingredients is similar to other complete foods, some of which are twice the price. Well worth trying
