Let me start by saying that me and my wife had a blast at the show this past Saterday. I meat shane and he is purty cool. He sold me a harnns that is real nice. I meat a nother lady that was real nice. She was a club member but it was rude of me that i didn't introduce myself but maybe i will see them at the next show. Now for my Q at hand: I am going to take my dog to the next show and show he off but i haven't done anything like that befor so what can i do to be as propaird as possble? What events can I be in with my dog that is 8 months old now and 55lb's. he's not real fat but he could stand to tighten up on the body fat a little and have more muscle cut. I can't remeber the next show date i think it is in September. I don't have the money to him through a keep like i saw in the magazine i got at the show. I know that he is to young to be in the WP that is what the keep was for in the magazine. Also what are the do's and don'ts in the events? I know the part about "Keep Your Dogs Separated" lol. All advice will be grately appreciated thanks.

In the shows they have the best red nose and the best blues. My dog is a choclate brindle so can he comepeat in the red nose part of the show? I know it is a silly Q but you never know if you don't ask.

I had it in the plan to get my dog cut and have he's dew claws taken off will that hert me in a dog show and is it a good idea at 9mo's? Because i did't see any dogs at the Bama show that wasn't without eather one i don't think. Thanks for the info Marty. Keep it comeing.

Cut how? If you mean ears, he's way to old. If you mean the manly cut, it' not to late. The dew claws should be done right at birth.

9 mo. old is WAY too old to have an ear crop done. Absolutely NO reasoning for it.....especially this late in the game. As for the dewclews, this is NOT a breed that has it's dewclaws removed, & may I remind people that dogs USE their dewclaws....they are not just an added accessory. No one I've ever known has the dewclaws removed. And btw, dewclaws are removed b/n the age of 3-5 days old UNLESS a serious injury has happened & if it needs to be removed after that, it's a surgery procedure in which your dog would have to undergo general anesthesia.

Loki had her dewclaws removed. They generally do it when the dog is a few-days-old puppy, around the time most vets dock tails. I don't know if I'd risk it on an older dog. As for ear crops, same thing. A dog can win with goofy ears, if the rest of them is good, and I wouldn't crop a dog past the 2-4 month age group, uness there was a very compelling reason.

yeah the manly cut. The ears are there to stay. The dewclaws i had heard that it was a good idea to have them off but i didn't know the time frame. Thanks, do the judges look down on the manly cut? Can a persion do the dewclaws at home when there days old? What could i expect if i have the dewclaws taken off now? If i have him cut (the manly) will it hurt me in the WP events as in drive? Will the manly cut make difference in the time frame when he switchs on (dog aggresion)? Also the suveraty of he's aggresion?

Im a member of the ABA and my dogs show very well. What the look for is a fit and helthy dog. They do not want to see overweight dogs and also do not want to see under fed dogs. They like to see muscle tone and conformation. I wouldnt worry about dew claws, Ive never had any of mine removed. Im located in Cullman, AL and if you have any questions about the shows feel free to ask.
