How much credability should a OTC winner get?And how do you feel about the title OTC winner being given to a dog and presented that way on a ped?

id say a true otc win is nothing more than taking a look. Nobody seems to give it much merit.
Now if the otc proved against something special - maybe - concider the source I guess.

Unless I seen it with my own 2 eyes it wouldn't mean much to me. It's B.S. to me.
Hook one for real and get the W. Lots of folks got these 1x or 2x OTC winners yet never get a real W. Makes me think somethings up personally, good enough to win 1 or 2 otc but can't get hooked for real? Sounds more like rolls turned into a bogus title.... JM2C

The trouble with otc...is that ya hear some saying,if i had done this and condition him,ya would'nt have won blah;blah .....etc;etc;......but at the end of it they are what they are...some better than other's...

I think is depends totally upon the circumstances surrounding the OTC. There is definitely not one answer to how I would feel about it

Whay does conditioning have to do with an otc, if it was conditioned it wouldnt be an otc...

An otc can have a conditioned dog in it. For example pre '76 lets say you worked your dog for 8 weeks and collected a forfeit the night of your show, you could call around and set up an otc two days after. Your dog would have an 8 week keep and the other dog could be straight otc with no work.

otc are tricky some dogs are kept relatively fit all yr round and some are kept hog fat so it would me tricky to give much merit to it unless all factors are known....another perspective is some matches come down to who is the better conditioner as some one said so his angle could give some merit to otc if both dogs are brought in at equal fitness levels which never really happens.....otc are jus tricky i guess

I think you are right Killa. There are so many scenarios possible. There would be Otc's where one dog was conditioned and one wasn't. If the dog that wasn't conditioned won, i think that win would be worth something. Also if its between two untested dog's then its just a sham. But if its between two seasoned dogs maybe both have won one or two then it carries some cred.

There would be otc's out there that carry more cred than some proper shows where everything was done properly but the hounds being used were crud. I guess its all relative...

It jus depends on the kennel the dogs coming from. Jus because a dog never officially gets hooked doesn't mean it can't be a great dog. The dog has no control over whether it gets hooked or not, all it can do is perform. From certain dogmen them saying the dog is good is more than enough for me. This is where knowing who you are dealing, the comp they went into or seeing a dog with your own eyes comes into play.

Not true, plenty of people bring conditioned dogs. Setting a weight, purse, date, judges, giving time to work a dog and so on is what makes it official. You have no control over what someone was doing with their dog prior

The dog don't know better, THE CAMP SHOULD!

An OTC win doesn't take anything away from the dog, but it sure would make me question why the hell this dog is so hyped up yet never gets hooked for real? Sounds to me like someones gearing up to peddle some offspring....

Also, I don't consider a dog that was conditioned for a show, paid a forfeit or received one and becomes a fill in dog that night and has also been conditioned to be an OTC. It's a replacement for the original match (Replacement dog has been conditioned so therefore is not OTC), shows are done by weight, not done by a dogs name, fill ins happen for many reasons...

Otc to me means, the dog came off his spot as is, no real work done to get the dog ready, if you conditioned the dog then how the hell is that an OTC event?

There's no one answer for me since it will depend on many other factors in play but for the most part I don't put much merit to a OTC win...

To me this is a OTC senerio,

Tom tells John his dogs are turds, John gets mad and tells Tom to go get his best dog. Tom goes and gets his roughest hound he owns right of the chain, hog fat at their normal chain weight, no conditioning done just walks up and plucks this charge right off the chain to bring over to Johns spot. John in turn, gets his roughest charge off his set up, also no work done, at the dogs typical chain weight and Tom and John start to see whom has the better dog without wanting to put the time or effort into a keep to really see who has the better dog and make it legit instead of a back yard dick measuring contest. Toms dog punishes Johns dog until Johns dog Quits, jumps the box, expires or John decides to save his dog from the beating it's receiving and picks up.... Tom is now the owner of a 1xW OTC.

That is an OTC match to me.
