Agreed. There is no substitute for experience and knowledge when it comes to owning a dog that will bite.

I am of the mind set that the ones with teeth are the ones that will bite. Just saying.

I went to my first Fila working type weekend in the late 90's. I got my dog out of the box and he went after the first person he saw. There were so many people, so many targets I think he got confused and settled down, but was still tensed and geeked. Anything that got within 20ft he went into that brain lock mode. I could see he was going to be a headache. I turned my truck around and backed up into the edge of the woods so he was separated from the crowd. He somewhat calmed.

This small compact car pulled up and all you could see was this gigantic dog in the passenger seat. She got out of the car and he started out with here. He broke toward another dog. He was maybe 160-170lb dog and she was maybe 125lb person. He drug her from one side of the field to the other. She was laid back pulling for all she was worth but could not match the dogs power and strength.

The dog had never been around other dogs and on that day she found out the hard way he was dog aggressive. She drove 3-4 hours for her dog to sit in the car the majority of the time.

Socialization is important not so much to be social but it exposes the dog to things so you can learn about the dog. Maybe even change some things about the dog once you have learned them but in the end, at least you know.

Goes the same for all dogs.

@lisa...my buddy had the same thing happen with his gamedog in a park and a lady said the same thing and unsnapped the lead on her dog so they could play. It cost him a few thousand dollars and a visit from Animal Control because his dog looked like she wanted to 'play' with her dog. Pretty much the exact same scenario you mentioned but with an expensive ending.

Omfg lol, yeah i left mine very very leashed lol. Some people huh. Im not sure anyone would know the answers but i have a coupleof questions
    1. Theres an AB named Tates Mr. Bud a smaller buckskin male bred to Tates Minnie Pearl a black bitch, I believe these are gamedogs based on size colour & over all phenotype, anyone have information on a Tate line APBT?

    2. The White English Bulldog WEB or Old Southern White OSW, they claim to have a history almost as old as the APBT yet no documentation, they state they never kept records back then but we know records were kept with a somewhat similar breed the APBT. I kinda call bullshit on the breed just a tool to make money.

Any info would be great even if you could point me in the right direction. Im working on an AB truths & facts based page but need more information, documents, pedigrees and or photos to back up or disclaim

Lots of diff strains of Sorrells but that doesnt really look like a Ssorrells dog to me.With that said I believe the name is Centennial Kennel in Mississippi that did add Sorrell to thier Bandog program. He went directly through Bert.

No i dont think its Lee , I know who you mean though. These are supposed to be "pure" AB's but no pedigree or false when compared to phenotype & colour

Not sure how this got lost in the shuffle, are you talking about the Carr line WEB? As for the bite if that’s the question with the AB the ones I’ve seen were scissor & tight reverse scissor not undershot

LisaWM I’m sure you know this from experience, but I’ll say it in case some one interested may not be familiar with the terminology: a “serious PPD” is not necessarily a dangerous or even unpredictable dog. Train up, train down. Train from drive, train from out of drive, and so on. Lol sometimes easier said than done... Not uncommon the PPD (certainly service K9s) with multiple suspect hospitalizations in the portfolio - which also live peacefully with the handlers’ family. Takes the right breed/genetics as well as imprinting, socialization, training, proofing etc..

A good AB from precise working lines should be able to do this, no? In fact seems to me the AB has a deeper, more credible working lineage than most of the above mentioned guardian molossers. BTW I was referring to the Bulldog Review journal in my earlier post. IMO some incredible ABs were showcased in that rag - some both catch and PPDs.

I’ll dig around but I thought Lee had an AB off Johnson but never got into the AB breed

Also the AB is a relatively new breed & is still very much in a crossbred state, they are still using the 7/8ths rule & having cold unregistered dogs being signed off on by sr judges. They are putting in various breeds before it was EB & Mastiffs now the new trend is gamedog

Owned Bandogges and AB's for probably 25 years up until today... Along with APBT, Rott's, a Caucasian Ovcharka as well - From my experience a well bred AB from a line representative of what you want to do with your dogs is as good an animal as you will find... Capable of doing everything rather well.

There is ALOT of crap out there - And the good ones are not easy to find - but can the same not be said about all bulldogs (I mean APBT when I say Bulldog...) These dogs do not belong in inexperienced homes and the good ones are kept out of contact for a reason - Most people do not deserve them.

Zero of Contender was a social butterfly that could close his mouth. I did catch work, gave PP demos to gyms full of hundreds of people, and he slept between my wife and I every night.

An old Bandogge of our breeding "Voodoo" - Was going for her FR Brevet before she blew out her ACL... Another ideal dog for my house... Loving to a fault (almost) and brought home the grocceries when we told her to.

They are different from the APBT's in many ways but they are all bulldogs in the end - And I frankly never knew why there is so much fracturing amoungts the bulldog community, even in working fields... For everybody whom thinks it is easy - Not "true purpose" work Try to put a Ring title on a bulldog (Any bulldog) - There is alot more to these square headed idiots than most (Myself included) give them credit for.

My Caucasian Ovcharaka "Wicca" - A "bird of a different feather" - She thought me more about dogs than any other animal I have lived with - And would gladly latch onto anything not recognized.

@Phillippe - demanding Ringsport was designed specifically for the Malinois - among the most athletic and driven working breed. Any other breed which can compete in this sport says a lot regarding the soundness of mind and structure of the individual dog. I've heard of Rottweilers competing at high levels of FR, but these Rotts were in the 70 pound range.

I like the practical size of the brindle bandogge as well as your AB’s conformation. Many K9 handlers I’ve spoken with contend the right size is about 65-75 pounds give or take a few for a PPD - handy for tighter spots yet sufficient knock down power, speed and agility. Regarding "fracturing", not much different in the working shepherd world. Informative post and great photos.

Curious why do you harness your dogs during protection drills and did you work the Ovcharka in PP?
