that place should be called the bitching life instead. no matter what dogs you show there they are garbage if you arent friends with the fraternity, and especially if you have an american or foreign flag in your profile or avatar.

ccdino try to go out with breeders who hunt their dogs and check them out, then choose accordingly if you're looking for a decent patterdale. people will always talk nomatter what dogs you have. pay no mind to anyone if you like the dogs you feed

very true 12 gauge it is full of nobs but there is alot of good folk onthere i met a few but the idiots are everywhere but dont agree with that about anything with an american flag as people like dan edwards get huge respect from the people on there and to the thread starter best thing to do is forget lines look for people that have bred there own off there own workers that will give you a better chance of success

although a bunch of twits there have treated me as i described among other fellow americans, others (very few) honest dogmen had pm'ed me with their support. i. too gotten out of hand with my replies in the past as some people can get to you and as they say silence could mean acceptance, and there's times one's gotta set the facts straight. the last thing we need is to fight, bitch and moan among us. what's the purpose of it, ok you have a better dog than me so what? so be it. let's breed'em together and get the best of them and from there we move forward. isnt all this we do about the dogs we so treasure.

ccdino try the patterdale club of america, good luck

It's not easy to sift out the truth in The Hunting Life.

I am still a rookie, too.
The best answers for my questions give me Robert Booth, Glyn Jones (Pickaxe), Sylvain (Southern Patterdale Kennel) and Todd Fulford. They have a lot of knowledge about the breed, and a lot of patience with rookies.

he doesn't have to, they already have bulldog blood through the Gould dogs.
I bought most of randy's terriers over the last few years. I will say they have turned out to be very good dogs.
we bred one male to a small bulldog bitch, the pups turned out to be excellent hunters with better nose and hunt drive than the "pure" patterdales. in turn one of the half bulldog bitches was bred to a patterdale male and the pups look like pure patterdales and are good hunters also.

I was wicked excited to see a Patterdale subforum. My daughter wants one & finally negotiated a deal with her dad to get her own dog.

My question is which lines are the smallest? My daughter is going to be 9 years old on Dec. 21st. She wants a smaller dog, preferably under 18 lbs. She wants to hunt with her dog and she'd like her dog to be able to track blood trails.

I don't think it's a good idea to give your daughter a Patterdale Terrier.
They are very gently with children, but they could fight like demons.
I am 74.8 inches and 220lbs, and I have had big problems to separate 2 fighting Patterdale females. It's much easier to separate 2 Bulldogs.

We're only going to get her one dog, although the kid would be wicked happy with a brace of dogs.

We currently have a 6.5 year old female APBT that is my service dog. We will be getting a male puppy this spring to train to be her replacement for when I retire her to do therapy work only.

How dog aggressive are they? I've heard everything from stone cold to hotter than a Texas highway in July.

I think not my friend. Dead serious. The kid brings home straight A's, she gets her own dog. She got 2 A's, 3 B+ and one C on her report card this week. She has never had an A, rarely a B+, usually all B-, C's.

She'll be 9 years old on December 21st, we're taking her to Cabela's to get her a BB gun.

She's been out with a friend hunting mice with jack russells in his barn, she thought that was the best thing EVER.

Stone cold I haven`t seen, but there is a range, yes. Some individuals are dog friendly, some are going to be dog aggressive if they have no work, some are dog agressive to the bone. But the dog friendly ones are only dog friendly if the other dog is dog friendly, too. If there is an other dog who starts trouble, they are no longer friendly.
Patterdales are tiny, but don't underestimate them. I have made the same mistake and I have paid for it.
They are tiny crazy crackers, who loves seeking, finding and destroying the quarries. That's what they were bred for, that's what they are living (and dying) for.
If they have no way of hunting quarries, they are going to be unhappy, and if they are unhappy they could make a lot of trouble.

    very true.
most of the good terriers I've had are very laid back and they do very well in the house. they are for the most part very 'soft' dogs, a little shy. if they are scolded they remember for weeks.
but...they need to work, to hunt.
when they go hunting they change into little gamedogs as hard or harder than most bulldogs. they love to hunt, they live for it. if they see my pickup or hear the tailgate drop they scream to be let off their chains.
the poor specimens I've had were mostly annoying, not laid back, not shy, as much a pain in the ass on the chain, in the kennel or in the house.
when they are good they are very good. when you have a bad one they are worse than the worst jack russell. barking, digging, etc..
even some of my good ones bark and dig but it is forgiven since they are such good hunters.
hoyden, you could contact me if you like, maybe I could steer you in the direction of a good dog or pup.
    one word of advice:
I would steer clear of anyone advertising pups on a website here in the states.

theirs plenty of good one here, its cool to say their arent but its obvious the haters havent ran through every terrieman breeding Patterdales to stand behind it. the ones I've had and have are crazy outside and sweet house dogs, kick back and look for a lap or find a place to sleep. I have one now that hates any dog, will hit any dog but when in a pack are fine. I'd put them vs any breed as most intelligent, theyre unreal, super smart dogs
