This post is only for the people who don't know. I learned many years ago that if not for our great for father's such as Pilot, Colby, Corvino, Henry, Tudor, Henzel, ect. We wouldn't have the world's greatest breed. Regardless of how there pedigrees read, fake or truthful, it's a fact that about 90% of all lineage will take us back to J.P Colby's yard. Is the modern day pure Colby Bulldog making any noise these days? No. However it doesn't take away the fact that there is a lot of it in most of Bulldogs that are today. David Tant told me personally back in 2002 that a good game pure Colby bitch is worth her weight in gold. I don't see any on his pedigrees. I have had Pete Colby Sr, visit my home and share stories with me , his brother John R Colby also that many of Renowned Dogmen would bring bitches to breed to Dime back in the older days up to Colbys Logan in the years 2007, 08 ,09 ect. You can just about name the Breeder at some point they would freshen the own lineage up by breeding back into Colby . TDK wrote The conventional Colby dog of today has been unkempt in regard to what it once was. But there is a hidden counterpoint to that fact.
Remember that the top side of a popular dog, Jeep, was Colby. They were dogs akin and from a Mr. Gardiner (pronounced Gar dee nay) in Canada. There were also huge amounts of dogs on the Carver yard, yet they were not accounted for in how he wrote them up as being bred. He got many dogs from the likes of E. Crenshaw, Shivar, Loposay, Hinajosa of Mexico and Dr. Damm, also of Mexico.
We seem to lean on and rest upon the fraud we see and accept it. Yet given these facts, there is another reality to how much Colby is really out there.
Before anyone jumps funny, I have personally heard Maurice talk about these things. Then he would laugh. All a game to him. Gamesmanship. He just flatly didn't give a damn if you knew or didn't know.
Some of you have heard the old expression: "A dog just isn't a real dog unless it has some Colby in it." Guess who said that. Maurice Carver.
He housed Crenshaw's Snow, Stu Fowler and many others on his yard for many years. What? You don't see them on breedings? He never bred such dogs? Please. Stompanato, Art's Missy and many other dogs of renown had much hidden Colby in them.
Some one pointed out that the conventionally seen Colby dog of today isn't doing much. Whichever poster made that comment is correct for the most part. But.....It doesn't take away the hidden reality that there is much more of it in dogs today than will ever meet the eye. And many of THOSE dogs ARE doing something.
I don't know what the hell this has to do with scatterbred, but the thread veered this way, so I thought a comment as to the hidden reality was necessary andrelevant.

I am not a breeder, and nor do I really care, but I will admit I enjoy the 'how they are really bred' conversations as much as the next guy. Maybe more.

Every big time breeder over the years knows for a fact the next big time breeder used XXX and did not tell anyone. I'm a Red Boy fan and I have sat in on a conversation where Mr. Patrick back door bought a Red Boy female from the east coast and, then I was asked, "Ever seen it papered that way?". The answer being an obvious "NO".

Tons will tell you Dynomite is a Red Boy/Eli dog. Some will tell you Jeep died after the Homer match and his son stood in for the next 8 years or so,

Mr. Edwards leaned over at least fifty times to as may as fifty different people and said, "This is how Molly Bee was really bred". 4-5-6 different versions, all straight from the source.

Honeybunch is bred two or three different ways.

End of the day it really does not matter. Pedigrees just give warm fuzzies.

None of the dogs mentioned in any of these posts is going to make the next scratch for you. Regardless.

I'm no breeder either @slim12 but I got a theory.. Find the best performing dogs [proclaimed to be] Bolio/Tombstone, Redboy, Frisco, Jeep, snooty, jocko and Red Devil, pile that blood on top of each other based only on merits of performance.. Might take a while but #1 They'll produce dogs that can hunt with the best. #2 They'll be the purest bolio/tombstone,redboy, frisco, jeep, snooty, jocko, red devil around no matter how them dogs originally got bred, or what pedigree you decide to put on them #3 they was probably all related in first place anyway! signed Maurice Carver.

To sum it up, imo we all start with Bulldogs that came from someone. I'm not a breeder as Slim and a few others have said. However, once a man has been breeding his or hers on lineage of Bulldogs for 4=7 generations it's there line. Just my opinion and I'm thankful for the Bulldogs we have and the folks who put it all on the line to keep this worlds greatest breed true to its original origin of purpose.

1st You said Mr Hollingsworth got a couple of Patrick dogs and named them ? Lol isnt that what most folks do when they buy dogs??? You think it's just that easy to accomplish what Mr Hollingsworth did??? He was a very gifted breeder. He inbred, linebred and crossed according. This shows ignorance I
On your on behalf. Every one knows about Hollingsworth Dogs. Not everyone can get them. Highly guarded bloodline. Mr Gaston , Chico Lopez. Southern kennels, Titan Kennels, What have you. Take a look at offspring. Not the get off topic but I posted a picture of Mr. Hollingsworth 20200115_162703.jpg with Lady in Red

I wasn't going to say anything but I got to agree with dex on this one. Regardless of what he said about black dogs he was A1 breeder. Anyone who would dispute that is delusional.
