Just noticed everything about chains is kinda old. Just wanted to show my setup and ask for tips for some people that don't get it. I'm a firm believer in chains. I have one pit bull proof kennel that's 8x16 and it cost me over $800 to build without a slab and I made the house out of recycled materials. It's only for whelping and heats. I just wanna make a point that you have to be intelligent and service/maintenance any setup but if a chain is done right it should reward you with peace of mind. To me that is worth it... I'm working at the moment but as I have time I'm going to post pics and tips

If done right the ring should digest smaller debris easily. Large sticks, vines, and pine straw or long grass will bind it but if you rake their feces daily it should never become an issue and if you don't keep any area clean your gonna have a problem with flies.

Do you weld the last link of the chain onto the swivel?

You have 3 weak points in that set up.

    1. C-clamp attacted to O-ring. Better and more secure to use cold shuts. What screws on can screw off. Wouldnt even trust it with lock tight or hammering it.

    2. O-rings are your weakest link in a set up and you attach the whole set up to one O-ring with the axle thru it. Wrapping the chain around the post of the axle and closing it with a cold shut would be a stronger more secure set up.

    3. Only using one O-ring the collar goes thru, i use 2 since again, the O- rings are the weakest link in a set up.

That set is probally fine for dogs who arnt extremely active on the chain. I would not keep a hard keeper on that set up.

The ring around the axel works great. I started out wrapping the chain around it and it binds on its self. I've found this to be the best method. I weld the link around the ring and yes FD I weld the other end to the swivel. On big dogs I weld the ring I use to make the swivel around the D ring that the collar has. I never put a ring around the collar bc it will pinch the skin and in Louisiana with our heat and humidity it will make a nasty sore. For my smaller dogs the c clips work well. I've never even had a problem when used with bigger dogs. The key to any setup is proper sizing and maintenance. I tighten them with a big crescent and some channel locks.

And all of my dogs are extremely active. Even my blues are off game blood and bred for hunting. I have a video of one of my pumps while I was training him for his owner. You can check it out and see the quality of my blood at YouTube. Com/spazkampbiggame

  11. Do us all a favor and quit handing out tips and advice lol.

You've been given good advice about the shit set up yet all you do is make excuses.

I do agree with the O ring on the axle though. Not that particular O ring in the pic, but the ones Shane from Stillwater Kennel Supply makes will hold up

We have a proper chain set up thread we don't need another one.......especially one handing out shitty advice.

    Correction, 4.
Your weakest link is the D-ring being used as a part of the set up. I would never use that piece of the collar except to attach a leach for a walk but never to hold the dog in it's spot in the yard but to each their own. D-rings will get pulled apart buy a chain yanker real quick.
