Raw feeding question - Butchers?

I've been reading up on feeding a raw diet now for over a year and I'm finally at the point where I'd feel comfortable doing it. BUT I don't know where to get any RMB's! Every site says "go to your local butcher" but real butchers are rare... do they mean just any old meat retailer or what? HELP. Anyone who feeds raw, where do you get your meat? Also, how much do you usually pay?

I need to get my mutt on a better diet, quick. I thought for the longest time she had a brain tumor, so I only upgraded to Canidae, thinking her death was inevitable. But, if it were a tumor I would think she'd have died by now. It has been right under a year since her first seizure and from what I've read the survival time is only 6 - 10 months average and that's with treament.
A week ago I thought we'd lose her for sure (her liver was shutting down) but I went ahead and lowered her Pheno and got her on Milk Thistle. She's doing great now.... so I have hope for her improvement if we get her on a natural, grain-free, supplemented diet.

I buy mine from the local Grocery store. He usually gives me a good deal. The organ meats, I just buy some and freeze them cause they aren't fed that often. But the chicken I get in cases and mine are a little higher, around 19.00. The produce guy gives me the carrots, squash and spinach sometimes. I only take them them if they still look OK though. Good luck with your dog. Does the vet not know what's wrong with her?

Also I wanted to add that my vet still thinks I'm crazy for feeding raw meat. He worries about food poisoning all the time. I know dogs have come a long way, but they used to be wolves.

Can I intrude with a little question ? Is it bad to add salt or something like this in the mix ?

Too much salt can cause kidney problems. Also, large breeds of dogs that eat salty food may then drink too much water and develop bloat, which is fatal unless emergency treatment is given very quickly. For this reason, I don't add any. And I use very little garlic as it can be bad too. Just like onions, if given in large amounts, can destroy red blood cells, cause anemia, weekness and breathing difficulties.

I get mine for free from a friend that works at a grocery store cutting meat :D

Nope. They suspect that she may have had distemper as a puppy and it led to neurological damamge but who knows for sure... In order to find out if there are any abnormalities going on in her brain (like a tumor) we'd have to do a scan and that's way too expensive.

Anyway, I guess I'll just check with some local grocery stores then. For now, I need to get her on EVO. I'm so frustrated with Canidae right now.

I've checked them out before since going to Petsmart is much more convenient for me but thanks anyway. I'm not at all impressed with them. First, there are no grain-free formulas, and second, they were involved in some recalls not too long ago. Plus, it's more expensive than EVO.
