ive been reading up on feeding raw and was wondering why they recommend feeding a variety of different meats....the reason why im asking is that i can get chicken for dirt cheap.they always recommend not to switch kibbles to not upset your dogs digestive track so why is raw feed any different?

for raw it's a basic of trying to get the whole blend.
    The percentages for dogs are,
    65% muscle meat
    20% bone
    10% heart
    5% liver

Muscle meat : chicken, turkey, rabbit, lam, horse and beef
Bone: speaks for it self as long as it is raw and not of a pig.
organs: kidney and liver, but do not give to much liver.
you can also give salmon heads, sardines etc

A personaly give my dogs entire chickens, rats, gineypigs, pigeons.
Lam ribs, quale you name it they are carnivors.

and for a dog let's say 44 lbs they recommend around 400/500 grams a day depending on activity

well the place that im gonna grab from has a mix called Pro Energy Blend that is a mix of 70% ground chicken backs and necks 20% chicken liver and 10% eggs for 20 bucks for 50lbs......would that be ok to feed?.....they also sell just the necks or backs

i can get 50 lb case of chicken carcass for 3$. theres a reason its 3$.. it would cost them A LOT to throw that weight in garbage out.
20$? damn they must be caking it.. i should grind bones and sellem for 7x the price...

go wholesale, dont be a cheap ass, backs and bones dont have enough meat,
whole chickens (or other) or leg quarters , i recommend air chilled.. , if you search around youll find some better than others, and it will save you money on your dinner.. dont buy that shit. go 100 or dont go at all. if you are going to feed raw, feed food not scraps

well ive been feeding my yard orijin for over a yr so i wouldnt concider myself a "cheap ass"...lol....its to bad that there doesnt seem to be any places that sell chicken for as cheap as you can get in the US

that would be fine but you'd have to add meat, there is not nearly enough in there. Can also add some vegetation

you talk shit, bout expensiv.. if 50$ for 50lbs of high quality air chilled chicken leg quarters is too much for you - you are a cheap ass. so fuckin what if it is 25$ in the US, suck it up and buy the meat. if you are feeding more than 5 dogs you should be raising some food or going to a farm for it. kinda person complains about the feed bill.

i heard you can mix sawdust with the bones to stretch the 3$ out a few days..

hey asshole.......obviously you miss interpreted what I said.....just looking to try feeding raw and was wondering if the product i have available to me was ok or not.......and i never said $50 for high quality chicken legs was to much for me....I asked if feeding one type of protein was really that bad......Im already going threw 3 bags of orijin per month so if i can can find a feed of equal or better qaulity for less the price or the kibble im already buying then i wouldn't consider that being cheap ass.....I consider that being smart

It's better to feed a variety of protein sources because different animals have different nutritional values. If you feed just chicken or just beef or just whatever, your dog is likely to have some sort of deficiency somewhere.

feeding your dog raw should be about giving your the dog the best feed he can get not about money.
Chicken backe and necks or just chicken isn't nearly enough.
you have to give it different kinds of meat.

but eukanuba a 15kg bag cost around 65 dollar over here and that is then 1 dog for almost 1 month for me.
For that price i have my 3 dogs on raw the entire month and they wil eat better than eukanuba can ever give them

I just feed chicken quarters, legs, wings, backs, thighs, necks, gizzards and sometimes I can get lamb shoulder blades. As far as beef goes what would be the best part to feed if you don't usually feed beef? I have given her these round eye boneless steaks before but I am a little clueless as far as beef goes since there are quiet the variety's. I am a little concerned now since about 90% of her feed is just chicken and I see crazyk9 post.

with beef, i get the head meat, neck, lips, tail, troath, liver, kidney and tripe.
with horse samo and from the lamb i also get the longs and other organs and ribs.

Do mixed it up chicken is just an ad on for the menu should not ne the entire menu ;)

Different types of meat have different levels of nutrients and amino acid profiles...."VARIETY IS KEY" when feeding a raw diet.
That pre-mix raw feed is not bad....I would add more muscle meat and oils on top of that and would feed 1 pound to each adult dog and go from there! I use to feed something similar here but found buying it separate was better and cheaper for me...REMEMBER, frozen fish is cheap also which you can feed every 4-5 days for variety!

variety is good but not a necessity...i feed primarily chicken backs...i do a meat/veggie grind/mix a couple three times a week...occassionaly i do feed red meats if i come across them really cheap....chicken backs have plenty of bone and the skin and fat is good also...it is not as meaty as most would like but i have not seen a huge difference....i do feed whole chicken or quarters when they are stupid cheap....the key is what one can afford according to the number of dogs you are feeding...raw is cheaper than dry but is a huge hassle and undertaking if you are feeding a lot of dogs....
but to answer your question if you can get striaght chicken for stupid cheap them you will not be selling your dog/dogs short with that route...US1

thanks for all the tips....I think i might go with the Pro Energy Blend and then just add ground beef or ground fish to bump up the meat content

interesting thanks for the info! I do try to incorporate lamb and beef when it's available also I have been wondering in regards to salmon and can mackerel, is it ok to feed salmon to begin with? I have given it to her a couple of times and I saw someone mention it's not a good idea? and for the canned mackerel I took a look at some the last time I was at the store and they all seem to be flavored in different types of sauce so I am not sure if those would be fine to feed? thanks

I buy the whole frozen fish by the bag..cost me $2 for a bag of 12 whole frozen mackeral or sardines! I don't feed salmon but I heard you have to freeze it for a couple days to kill some parasites in it!

that is indeed dead cheap I will have to ask my sea food butcher next time I was just curious because I came across the ones in the can but seeing certain flavored sauces didn't leave me to confident to just feed. Geez if that is true I may be in trouble  I had the 2 pieces frozen for a day and then gave it to her.

Raw salmon has a parasite in it and it needs to be frozen for at least 24 hrs to effectively kill it. Canned salmon and mackerel is fine but I wouldnt use the ones with a sauce on it.
