just chicken backs and supplements I would think the dog is not receiving the nutrition he/she really needs in the end. Exactly how many years have you been doing this?

damn......... I feed raw because I can do it at 1/2 the cost of premium kibble and that's all I need to know, hehe, no wild dogs get full nutrient's in their daily diet anyway.............go raw, save $$ and stick it to the bastards feeding corn and wheat to a canivore:)

Sorry to bring up an old thread but instead I figured I would add to this one.

I feed raw it mainly consists of
    -80% meat
    -10% bone
-10% organ 5% of that being liver

The percentages may be more or less depending on your dog just check their stool for the correct form. This is what is the most helpful for me.

    I feed
    Chicken-
    Whole chickens
    Chicken breast bone in
    Boneless chicken breast
    Chicken wings
    Chicken necks
    Chicken feet
    Chicken hearts and gizzard

    Turkey-
    Turkey necks
    Turkey legs

    Pork-
    Pork necks
    Pork liver

    Beef-
    Chunked beef
    Beef hearts
    Beef liver

    Venison-
1 whole deer deboned this includes
Organ meat such as lung and liver

    Rabbit-
    White tail skinned whole

Fish- either whole, heads, or parts
    Asian Carp
    Bass
    Bullhead
    Catfish
    Crappie
    Trout
    Walleye

This gives you a look of the variety I feed. The venison I process my self along with the rabbits and fish I've both got from Mother Nature. Pork is pretty expensive so I only feed necks because that are 90% bone and that is only once in a while for a good teeth clean/jaw workout. The fish has been all locally caught and I've made sure the waters were safe for human consumption. I do reccomend freezing any wild meat at least 30 days at the lowest temp. To call parasites.

Once I get my house I am going to look into buying either meat lambs, goats or any hogs and process these animals my self this helps save money and feed less store bought. I also want to add a bit more variety in my dogs organs I plan on getting some kidney and green tripe.

I supplement with 1 dose of salmon oil per day for the omega 3's and 6's and also 1 dose of glucosamine chondroitin.

  7. Good insight I didn't know you had to change up meat sources. I started with beef for 6 months now I do chicken and eggs. But I will change that up now and go with a variety.

  8. I also feed taste of the wild.

Yes...the variety does them good in my opinion as I done that myself for many years now!
I have my meat sources for which I buy in bulk(Chicken, beef, & turkey), plus I also watch out for meat sale ads at places like Food City, Farmers Market, & places like that...that carry other various meat sources(pork necks, pork tails, ox tails, & ect.) Pretty much what all is listed above, with the exception of fish as I never really got into feeding fish much!

I read you want to feed at least 3 different proteins. 4 is really good. My meals are kind of like this 3-4 chicken feet 1lb chunked beef or venison. A few gizzards or frozen liver treats. You cover the ratios and it's easy. Other meals like rabbit or fish I feed whole with just the meat and bone sometimes add organ. Normally I don't feed much chicken except when it goes on sale 70cents a lb for chicken hindquarters now. I'll feed hindquarters with some organ meat. Hopefully gonna buy a live lamb or goat and process that my self for another protein source that is cheap.

I think its because different types of meats =different tips of vitamins and different amounts of protein +youre dog will get board of the same thing every day

Lean might be good for humans but not so much for dogs.

Lean meat is fine for dogs, goat meat is also a high source of protein. Some meat cuts are really fatty and lean ones are a good way to balance that out. I am not recommending you feed just lean goat meat I am aware that they need fat for energy, also goat is kind of stinky the dogs will love it.
Variety is they key to feeding raw.
btw If you can source the goat and all its innards all the better.
