I don't think anybody disagrees with what TDK is saying in the above post. To me the biggest truth in the post is that people lie about pedigrees. The thing is at this point in time it does not really matter. Carver, Stu Fowler and Snow have been dead for over forty years. There is no telling how many times papers have been hung between now and then. Saying "a dog isn't a real dog unless it has some Colby in it" in 2020 is like saying "its not a real dog if it doesn't have Corvino, Lightner or any breeder from that era". Realistically every line probably has some Colby in it, but if you are looking that far back then you are missing the forest because of all the trees.

He doesnt comprehend what to was saying. Just cherry picks because he thinks it makes those obsolete dogs relevant....

Tdk spoke about m.c. as I've said hes been dead how long? Some folks cant handle truth and reality. The "hidden colby" is 60 years ago. But since tdk mentioned it its alive and popping though it isnt...

Hidden Colby ? It's more or less gone, not hidden.
Can someone post the Ed Crenshaw interview (the reading stuff) ? He was asked if he knows a line of dogs without Colby's Dime and/or Tudor's Dibo in it. He couldn't answer.
And the answer is ? There is also rumors that those dogs are hidden a lot. ;) Some even call them OFRN today \m/>:)=))
    :D
Colby in the beginning was also working with some Irish Old Family stuff, but his dogs were mostly English bred. Decades later the Colby dogs have become 'pure' dogs.
It never was the 'purest' family of dogs, and still isn't today. Completely brainwashed, no wonder you @corvettedex defend them dogs.
Colby was the biggest peddler on earth, and this over 100 yrs ago. Imagine ...
    Good luck !

When the right people step out and it don't get worked out well further on it will vanish.
When I'd lived in Colby's time I'd probably bought a dog from him, LOL.

That is correct. I am not here to sell anyone on any lineage. I dont chase dead dogs. I have owned over 70 Bulldogs. All different lines. All have strengths and weaknesses.

You are correct about JP being a peddler. Bottom line is all of our Bulldogs come from our Forefathers. I have had the opportunity to own over 70 in my lifetime. Different lines have strengths and weaknesses. Take care.

Just imagine what they will be saying if today's breeders in the future and their dogs..
Many people will say and type many things about subjects they know nothing on.
What they say or type can't change anything.
Not here not on YouTube .. people wanna talk shit all day but still can't show better. U ask em what they feed...most of them.sho u a pedigree. ..with no pictures ..merit..or credentials...but yet they will still type and say what they want. They ain't t bout that smoke.=D>

With Neuromyletis Optica, NMO, I have a lot of sleepless nights, coupled with rotating shift work on top of that. To pass the time I read and sometimes re-read a lot of the older posts.

This one was brought back up and there several good posts.

I believe the Colby dogs played a major part in yesterday's dogs and play a role in today's dogs as well.

Some age and numbers were thrown out so here is mine, I'm 50 years old and started walking all out match dogs when I was ten or eleven. That is about 40 years in the dogs and the one thing I have learned is that none of the dogs are as advertised. None. Mostly because there is always someone who knows how they are really bred. Every major breeder since the dawn of dogs has a skeleton in the closet. Any and every guy can know exactly how his dogs are bred all the way back until some else's name pops up and then it is suspect from there. Name the breeder or name the line, it is all inclusive.

Since I have never bred a lot of dogs and do not have my name attached I take what I read and hear with a grain of salt. Some of the inconsistencies I know to be fact, most I have read or heard about, but even then there is a guy perpetuating a line thinking one way when in reality he should be going in another. The only consistency in the inconsistencies is that sometimes inbred dogs perform and sometimes scatterbred dogs produce as there are no hard lines between the two.

Sometimes I doubt a breeding or claim based on the math. The odds of having a famous dog from forty-fifty years ago up close in the third is always suspect to me. The odds of lining up four dogs that are all producing pups at 12-15 years old makes me wonder.

Since I saw my first match 35+years ago and seeing the aftermath of two good dogs I find the Colby Pincher story very hard to believe. I know it is history and it is reported and it came from maybe the first greatest family ever from one of the founding fathers in the dogs, I still think it is a hard pill to swallow.

There is an earlier post that showed he would have to have been in keep at least 5 solid years. If there were any recovery time required at all 5 years can turn to 7 years in a quick minute. If 12 of the 24 reported matches were any kind of bulldog at all, the recovery time would have extended his career from 5 years to 10 years. If the number of wins is 50, and if he would have been on anything that resembled a dog that was fighting back, he would have had to start when he was 12 months old and fought til he was 15. And at what point did he have time to make all those puppies?

I believe he was a great dog, an all time great but seeing no more than I have seen, and the carnage that can be left, even to the winning dog, I struggle with the 24W's and simply can't see the possibility of 50.

I won't diminish the name but if it were told he whipped the neighbor's German Shephard three times in the same day, then he can get to 24, maybe even 50. I simply can't see any dog beating 50 all out match dogs.

The Colby name, like most, fell victim to popularity. The original Colby and his dogs were the founding dogs for many families. The next generation things planed off and the third generation took advantage of what the first two generations did and sold puppies. From there it is a slippery slope. Popularity killed the Colby family of dogs as much as anything.

It is the double P death sentence, POPULARITY and PEDDLING. It gets them all.

But who knows about those strengths and weakness things that are coming with dogs bred by other guys ?
Would you like to get some real dogs bred by only 2 breeders in 75 years ? They knew for sure about the good and the bad things in their dogs. Heard about the King Of The Pit ?
And I would even say that is was much harder to get dogs from them as it was with Mr. Hollingsworth and most others on this planet.
Btw the dog in my avatar was a real dog. In- and line-bred for 75 years with no real outcross at all.
There was only 2 male dogs bred like that. Guess who got both ? And I'm not from the states, as you can imagine when reading my perfect english.
And there was not a single soft or weak spot in this dog. Made of steel. Or better said, made of gold.
I have only owned 10 or so in 25 years. Well, they sometimes can get old, if worthy. 50% of my gone dogs would just shredder your yard. One after another ... choose a color. lol
Selection could be a key. Start with the right breeder first ... but don't ask me. I produced only 4 litters of pups, last one in '97. Than I got educated a bit.
Well, if you wanna know why I'm here ... I don't know ... damn dogs. lol
I did not find these dogs ... they have found me ... but that's about my personal mission. Take care, too.

Good questions, I will do my best to answer them honestly. Being pure in family , Breeding back to a good Colby hound was known to refresh the blood line. This has been done by old timers for decades. (Not always shown on paper ) I have owned a few that were extremely smart, Deep game, but not as rugged as other lines. Also lack mouth. I was taught 30 plus years ago if we breed for gameness 1st, the rest can be added. 1 more thing I want to mention is going back to JP , Louis rip, if you bought a Bulldog from them you could name it or call it what ever you want. Some people showed there lineage as what it is, some didn't. This bitch I'm posting below made Rom
