Shade set up for barrel dog houses

Discussion in 'Products & Equipment' started by elviejon01, Dec 11, 2018.

  1. Looking for shade ideas for barrel dog houses. Currently I use the plywood sheet on the side but the dogs keep knocking it down. Have also tried the visor cut out but the dogs just chew on the plastic.

Appreciate anyone sharing pictures of their set ups.

    Thanks In advance

    No pics.

My buddy uses the plywood method as well. He has posts in the ground. The plywood top with the barrel to the far right. On the far left he boxed in the side with plywood to keep the dog from wrapping the chain around the post.

Not sure if the words paint the picture but hope it helps.

I bolt a strip of 2x4 to the underside of the sheet of plywood then bolt that along the top of the barrel! Works pretty well

I do the shade board w 2x4s as bracing underneath. Screw the plywood into the barrel somehow. I usually do it on the "rim" of the barrel that is positioned at the rear of the house. That way the screw hole isn't going into the barrel itself. Just the rim.
I do have some that will fight the shade board so I will drill a hole in the bottom of the shade board by the ground and slam a piece of rebar through the hole to keep them from moving the bottom of it. That way the top and bottom is secured.
