Should I dock her ears??

I'm not a big fan of docking dogs ears I'd rather them be natural, but in Anita's case her ears just look plain silly! Yeah, they are cute now, but when she gets older they'll look really wierd. I don't like the way adult dogs with almost full prick ears look. For example.....Be R's Lady Bug (Left)[IMG][IMG]
Anita's ears I'm very sure will look just like Bugs ear's and I don't like Bug's ears. Please help me on this issue......

i personally wouldnt dock ears, as it seems to show more expression , and i think they could even hear better...i could be wrong, i just dont like scarred up ears.

i think u shouldnt--i was told that its best to do it as a puppy--because they wont really feel anything--but when they get older its more like cutting--and it will hurt the dog-

I'd leave em, but there are some other health issues that need to be addressed before you even consider cosmetic surgery!

Thank you Rock I've taken her to the vet and had the missing hair problem investigated. Her 3 skin scrapes all came back negative for any skin parasite, and her fecal was negative as well. Her blood work came back normal and everthing showed her to be perfectly heathly. The vet says she might have a case of excema (Dry skin that itches and becomes bothersome) she is on some pills that were given to me by the vet that are supposed to help with the dry skin. No offense, but I'd just like to know about the ears please.

And Gene Sanchez she is a puppy that's why I'd like to consider doing it now.

I think the ears give her character. She looks like such a happy dog. :)

why do an un-needed surgery? To make your dog look meaner or cooler? I think the dog looks cute like that and shows character. The final decision is up to you and it is all a matter of preference. I have seen some ear cutting that looks like it has been done by hacks.

You can disreguard this if you like, I just dont like conforming to what a lot of other people do.

Thank you for your worries, but my vet does the crop with a laser. He has done a wonderful job on my cousins APBT so I will go to him. I wouldn't be doing it to make the dog look cool or mean I'd be doing it so she didn't look wierd. Even my boss a 51yr. old man says that her ears look really wierd. He has Snauzers.

Cemoreno, I think u should get them cropped as long as the vet u know does good cropping. Your dogs ear will look great because they already stand up really good.

  11. if it was me i would crop them.

it is kool to crop an apbt ears. what is up the the docking of their tails. in think that is a form of cruelty to the breed.

um yea u don't dock an apbt's tail, my dog is half boxer that's why his tail is docked, but a pure apbt shouldn't be docked.

i was corrected on that once too, boiboi, but then i seen it even in books! lmao! i was like, ummm, o-kay, i thought that doesnt happen! lol, whatever! :)
btw~boiboi, did your dog just devour an animal? or is he just real pink around the mouth? either way he is a cutie pie! :)

  16. IMO--
I wouldn't get the ears (or tail) docked. Unless there is a medical reason why to have it done. Elective surgery like that is cruel (IMO). I feel it's up there with declawing cats.

BTW-- Anita is beautiful, like others have said they give her character

Thank you for all of your wonderful opinions. They are greatly appriciated. And just to set the record straight I don't like it when ppl. who dock tails for other than medical reasons on APBT's either. I should've tiltled this crop ears not dock ears well you guys knew what I ment any ways. Sorry, tonight I will talk this issue over with my husband I think he's dead set on croping her ears though. We'll see!!! any other comments or opinions welcome.

I don't understand the question. If you are seeking approval, you will get a lot of NO's and some YES's. You have a good Dr. picked-out, lazer is the best, the cut on the white dog looks great. What are you asking?

If you want to do it, do it. You know the risks and sacrafices involved. You know the benefits as well.
