I don't have too many photos of my dogs hardware since most are missing a lot of them and I've always preferred to take pictures that are getting posted to promote a more positive image of the breed to the general public but here are a few I do have.

None are overly huge though. I prefer normal sized cutters. Big ones are much more likely to break IMO.

Charlie is a 50 lb dog.

Odio and Pumpkin when they were both under 15 months old, odio was like 9 or 10 months old in this picture. Hes a 50 pounder and she is 35lbs.

    Harley is only 27lbs.

A little off topic…Missing teeth, front of mouth grips vs rear mouth. Curious to hear how missing primary teeth like canines and premolars impact grip/hold? Is there a point when a dog is at a sporting disadvantage/tipping point due to missing teeth? Which ones? One of mine is missing a lower canine, some pre molars and other small ones (9 total) due to injuries as an overdriven pup. Those remaining are clean and healthy. He still clamps down strong, but I wonder if the uneven grip can lead to other problems, if that makes sense. Maybe some of you who actively do tug or bite work etc can weigh in…

It surely stacks the odds against the dogs missing them. Some are just that good it may not seem to matter but it does on a more general level as well as long term.

Especially the cutters IMO as those are the achor teeth. Molars and Premolars are equally important because they do the crushing and breaking of bone. The real damage happens with them. Incisors are the least important when talking about holding.
When teeth are missing, the gum line recedes and weakens over time. Broken teeth can lead to abcesses, further tooth decay, pain and infections that can eventually become systemic.

I have seen a dog or 2 that had no teeth still produce deep contusions. People sometimes refer to them as pressure bitters. Don't do much damage on the surface level but massive trauma to internal tissues from blunt force.

They can and do still win but your definitely stacking odds against them for every tooth that's missing.

I like a hard pressure biter. One that works a hold and does visible damage isn’t necessarily doing the MOST damage. If you got one that cuts and slashes, that might not stop one. Maaaaybe loss of blood might stop em. 8-12 punctures and maybe a busted leg or 2 later, a hard pressure biter can make it hard to scratch

Seen a few that didn’t care about having less hardware.holds them back but doesn’t make the job impossible.

I'll act like everyone and their mom and quote tdk on 1 missing cutter...

"If you take away a kickboxers left leg can he still fight the same?"

    To play devils advocate...
Bill “Superfoot” Wallace only kicked with his left leg and only used a variation of 3-4 kicks... He hurt his knee before his karate and kickboxing career. He also lost a nut competing in a point karate match... He was a world champion

Then there’s the one armed mma fighter. I watched this guy submit a couple folks wit a MEAN guillotine choke!! Nick Newell, I had to look up his name...

I had one that lost a bottom cutter and she looked just as good as she ever did after.

BUUUUUUUT!!!!!! Ain’t nothin like a mouth full of hardware on a dog that knows how to shut it! Some are hard biters, some work holds better. TRUE hard biters don’t NEED all their canines. The ones that do damage by working a hold DO need all 4 canines imo...

if we're using human analogies: kickboxing, no.. a real fight sure.

When an exploding enemy mortar round severed 2d Lt. Bobo's right leg below the knee, he refused to be evacuated and insisted upon being placed in a firing position to cover the movement of the command group to a better location. With a web belt around his leg serving as a tourniquet and with his leg jammed into the dirt to curtain the bleeding, he remained in this position and delivered devastating fire into the ranks of the enemy attempting to overrun the marines.

The short answer here is, no, he won’t fight the same. If he is special, he will find a way around it and still fight!!

jean jacques machado has no fingers on one hand and is one of the best bjj guys ever.

Tra Tellingman only has 1 pec and 1 lung and had a decent record considering.

But arent these more exceptions than rules? To go back to your own quote "if he is special" but I'll point out I dont think hardware equals the will to fight. In the documentary muderball one of the guys in a chair claimed hed fight anyone anywhere anytime... he had the will just not the hardware.

Most folks with 1 leg wont be super foot because most ppl with 2 legs wont be.

Barracuda wouldve been just as nasty with a full mouth but could "fill in the blank" have done the same with the same set of teeth?

It's all a guess. Who fucking knows because they didnt have to...

The point behind tdks quote was he wouldn't expect a dog missing hardware to perform in the manner he would one with a full set so he himself wouldn't put one in the same position.

Off topic but him having no hand was a huge advantage. But I do agree all the people mentioned are the exception to the rule.

I disagree except with the marcelotine... it help him cant and secure his grip for the guillotine...

I dont see how not having one hand makes catching limbs, gripping the gi, securing gable or s gribs etc easier and not significantly harder....

I mean his own students have gone to say how incredible it is he achieved his level of success let alone became the teacher he did with his handicap.

I know you say you train but I will HAVE to take joe Rogan and eddie bravos quotes about their trainer to be the more realistic ones.

Jj machado is world class in and out of the gi and of corse it’s amazing to be one of the best ever to compete in submission grappiling without most fingers on one hand. I am also a big fan. But he used it to his advantage with the game he played. Hes most famous for winning abu Dhabi and that’s a no go tournament. He’s obviously not going to collar choke but for a lot of chokes it would be easier to get the arm under. And he didn’t play a marcelotien, that’s from Marcelo Garcia who came after jj and from way different lineages, Marcelo being alliance and machado Gracie barra.
