Natas has had really bad diarrhea for the past 3 days. it smells so bad it can wake you out of a dead sleep!! i noticed last night that he is limping he won't put weight on his front leg. My stepfather said that he gave him a cooked steak bone the other day so i was wondering if it had anything to do with that but why would he be limping?? he has no desire to get up and i have to carry him outside, he hasn't been eating or drinking hardly anything and he just kind of mopes on the couch. i have an appointment at the vet this afternoon but i'm wondering if there is anything i should be looking for?? i'm really worried about him.

Some dogs will change their gait or look like they're limping if they are having abdominal pain.

    Good luck at the vet.

Ok I feel much better now. Thank you all for your concern. The vet said the limping is most likely from him hurting himself chasing the cat around on hardwood floors. He felt around and couldn't find anything, he said his muscles in that area feel tense almost like a charliehorse. As for the diarrhea he said his temp is 101 and since there is not blood in the feces and he is not throwing up they ruled out lymes disease and parvo, he gave me an antibiotic for a bacterial infection of Metronidazole and said it should clear up in a couple of days.

Id watch him careful. I had a bitch that my bf brought inside from her chain, she ended up showing the same signs your dog was, a few days later i took her in to my work (im a vet tech), and we took some xrays and noticed her intestines where bloated, and blocked.
We got in there and there was a WHOLE collar, damn dog swallowed the whole thing. $1100.00 later, shes doing fine.
If your dog persists in the not eating/drinking/limping/not moving take him in ASAP and have x-rays done. If you wait too long the gut can start to die off. Not trying to scare you, just informing.

Also, DO NOT feed him for 24 hours, let his poor gut rest, just give the metronidazole and as much water as he wants. Just watch em close.

Metronidazole is usually prescribed for giardia. Did you have him tested for that. Giardia is transmittable to people and other animals. and the symptoms you described sound like giardia. the nasty diareha ect...

What is Giardia?? I'm gonna have to do a search on that. Actually they didn't do any testing, he checked his temp and then tried to figure out what the limping was. What concerns me is that the diarrhea started monday and then the limping started last night, just seems strange that they both came on at the same time. Also they told me to feed him then give him the Metronidazole. I gave him a little bit of hamburg with the pill today, he ate it right up so I know he's got some appetite but he's in quite a bit of pain trying to walk around so if I bring the water and food to him he'll take it but he's not showing much interest in his dog food.

hes not interested in the food because his GI tract is upset. DONT feed him for 24 hours. Otherwise you will continue to get the runs.
Metronidazole is prescribed for GI upset.

metronidazole is a cure-all for diarhea. anytime a dog gets it i give them that for a day before taking any other action. it always goes away.

on my honeymoon in mexico i got the nasty ass from something i ate, i was miserable until i finally found a pharmacy that had metronidazole. a day later it was back off to snorkel and enjoy myself again :)

you can get it online and i would recommend you have it stored ready to use along with amoxicillin and cephelexin at the very least.
