the hard part about working the way up is not depending on the internet or a forum to pay the dues....it has to be in person....if there is no one you can see weekly or even monthly in person then either move if it is worth that much to you, or give up the idea and pursue a different endeavor with the dogs....it is really that simple....
a better topic maybe why can't experienced, well respected, well accomplished dogmen give out vital information on the internet so it is EASY (and EASY may be the key word for this entire thread) for all to get to the top? ...believe me, it is hard to be successful in the dogs...it was hard 50-60 years ago....it is especially hard now in these days and times....the people who are looked upon as successful both then and now had a few things in common...patience, some common sense and most of all commitment....US1

Up didnt i ! That means I should be
Talked to as a peer and on a newbie "
Nothing happens over nite like that !
And to honest ive been around these dogs
Almost all my life but havent really took
A big interest in them til about five years
Ago ! but I do know all about starting at the
Bottom and working your way up ! So I won't
Be discouraged at the work I will have to put in !

These dogs ! I know I will make some mistakes and thats fine
With me as ill take it as a learning experience ! But I wont
Give up ! So I do think im on the right path it might be
Long hard and have bumps that may make me yield but

I would much rather pay $1200 for a pup from a working FAST LANE kennel with titled parents than 2 $500 pups from a pretty paper breeding or OTC bs that is so popular these days. And from a GRCH Legend like Awesome Beast bred to a titled gyp, $1500-2000 is not unreasonable IMO. It's all about the individual animal and the comp, I prefer to see the parents in action if we go outside the yard. Pups from other breeds at the top of their game go for much more, with the sacrifices and risks encountered, IMO ours should be more.

With that being said, there are no guarantees that the pups will turn out regardless of how badass the parents are, or how high the price is. Only guarantee is that they will eat, bark and shit. Look at the Zebo x Honeybunch breeding, how much would people pay for a breeding like that today? I know I would have been in line.

Slim,, what you posted is a message I have had to try and have sink into young heads so many times I cannot count them. Getting ahead of oneself is surely the biggest pitfall young people make. That is not to discount non sincerity, greed, flim-flamming, flippant attitude and just plain lack of respect or appreciation for many things.

I had some well known mentors as my main sources of being raised in these dogs. Some I saw often.....some not so often. But one thing I remember developing as a good habit was to listen, even when someone was talking to someone else at any gathering spot, I kept my rabbit ears up and took in what I heard. Your EARS and EYES are your tools for being mentored. Not your mouth.

Good post, Slim, and good analogy with the mason example. Reflects my sentiments, experiences and what I have so often expressed to a tee.

I personally love what I got off tango so far.. We have 3 right off tango which are just coming of age!
We paid no where near the price listed and directly from gb. Matter of fact my last one was gifted to me. I guess when you are doing right with these dogs people want you to have their stock..
Can't say enough about GB.. Good peoples and outstanding dogs!
